People that went there and left empty handed have every right to be upset. Especially after seeing these figs being thrown on eBay instead of in their collection. I went there at the advertised time and when I got there the line was short and they were all out of figs. So after a short time debating whether I should stay to meet Pat or leave, I chose to leave out of frustration. From what I gathered, people got there an hour or more before the event started and employees opened the box of figs a half hour BEFORE the events scheduled start time. Now there’s 3 versions out there of how they got handed out: Version 1- they handed em out starting with the back of the line which the people in the front missed out Version 2- the first 50 were handed the figs Version 3- a Wal-Mart employee brought em out in a cart and people just grabbed em. I don’t know which is true but it all sounds sloppy. In my opinion, the way this should have been handled was to take the low quantity of Pat figs and put them near the signing booth then hand one to each person when the meet Pat at the scheduled time that was advertised. Simple and organized. And the Mattel rep (or whoever was in charge) should have brought a higher quantity of figures. ESPECIALLY since nothing was advertised of the quantity being low or limited to 50. I felt like it was a waste of time for me and I live nearby, I can only imagine the frustration of the people who had to travel far. Hopefully by tagging Action Figure Attack the next event involving a Mattel Figure can be better experience.

There are people on Ebay and Instagram with 2 to 3 figures each so the cart story of people grabbing as many as they wanted makes sense. I got there 10 minutes after the start time and no way were there 50 people through there already for the figures to be gone. Some Ebay photos people have are the figure with the back drop before the event started so it seems these were handed out in advance as well. How something so simple could have been screwed to this extent can only happen in Hartford.

I got there around an hour before, which is the normal for any event like this... they passed out yellow bracelets as you lined up. It was around 1:30 when they opened the boxes and dumped them into a carriage. The Mattel Reps said they only brought 50 total figures. They wheeled the carriage around the front of the line. Once word got out about buying the figures.. most of the people ran up to purchase one.. At one point, there was soo many people coming at the lady that she turned and ran off.. leaving the carriage open. A few grabbed what they could and ran off towards the front of the store. The figures where a 1st come 1st served type of thing but it got out of control and a better plan needs to be made for future events.

But I wouldn’t consider that “first come first serve”, it was more like “Black Friday free for all”

A fair price for one of these signed would be around $60 to anyone curious. Figure the figure itself will cost $18 at retail in two months. Patterson at signing events charges $20-$25 and he never has any line. The hype is the early release. In 2 to 3 months this figure will be $30 unsigned and signed maybe $50 - $60 I'm thinking. Patterson is not a highly sought auto and if this figure wasn't a limited run this event would have been much lower attended I believe. Even with this there was really not that many people there. Maybe 75 or 80 and I got there about 10 min after it started

Not sure what they charged for the Patterson figures but I did see they had an end cap with all series 65 elites and they were all marked up to $29.97 each. Probably $15.88 like the other Elites figures.

So what I’m gathering here, is that people are upset that people were grabbing multiples. Same people getting upset are the ones that planned on grabbing multiples if they could. Never change, WFigs.

Way to twist the words. Was buying multiples only if allowed by the store quotas assuming they had a couple hundred on hand. They had 50 and people swarmed them to take multiples with no semblance of any system to distribute. I didnt even get one figure. Dont care though as I'll just get it in a few months but its posts like this that are just meant to stir people up and cause problems

It’s not to “cause problems” at all. I’m just pointing out the irony that you feel you dictate what’s “fair” and “unfair” in this situation. So had there been 50 figures, 200 people in line and the rep said “Take as many as you want”, you’d take one? Of course not. Get real. You’d grab as many as you could to help out the members here. You think it’s unfair that there was only 50... because you got there late and didn’t get one. Was it done in an unorganized fashion? Absolutely. Even if the figures were sitting at the table, you still wouldn’t have gotten one. There was no limit on how many could be purchased (obviously) and people took advantage of that. Much like you planned on. Doesn’t matter how they were re-sold. You were planning on possibly selling them for $50, which I personally don’t think is “fair”... but that’s what an exclusive will do. Drive people to have to have it. Even if at $200+. Oh well.

Lol Honestly, I should’ve been more clear in the initial response. When I say “people”, I don’t just mean on this forum. Instagram posts, Facebook comments. I saw a few accounts on social media that are known re-sellers that were upset that they weren’t able to obtain even one. I just laughed. Collecting is a game. Always has been. Always will be.

I agree. I don’t have an issue with others finding figures at retail first and doing whatever they want with it. And to be honest the collectors put too much blame on the sellers (“scalpers”) but the real blame should be on the buyers that actually buy it therefore setting the price for other sellers. That being said, between the Mattel rep and Wal-Mart employees, they fed the “scalpers” at this signing. This signing was just a mess. It should have been more organized and thought out. It should have been controlled to make it fair to all those who attended. I personally wasn’t there to grab more than one. Just wanted one for my collection. And to be honest, the signature would have been in vain because I would have opened it to display it in my attitude era shelf.

So this is how the wrestling figure community turned into the next pop vinyl/beanie baby community
