Besides all the rumors about Warrior being dead/his comeback/Texas Tornado etc, were there any other urban beliefs about the product from the classic years?
Either just rumors around your area, or things you just thought but turned out to be false later?
Me and my friends use to think Doink the Clown was actually Demolition Smash. Don't think I knew Smash was Repo Man until much later on.
I also thought the Blu Brothers were the Berzerker and the Viking. Or if Berzerker and Viking were the same guy, that they happened to have a twin they brought out to make the tag team.

My brother showed me his old WWF annual and convinced me that Tatanka and Kurt Angle were one and the same. I believed that for a couple of years until Tatanka came back in β06.

Every wrestler sang their own entrance music Texas Tornado and Ultimate Warrior were the same person Shawn Michaels legitimately forgot how to smile Hornswoggle was actually Finlay's son and when Finlay's dad used to coach me in wrestling as a kid, I was convinced I'd eventually get to meet his 'grandson'
I'm not sure if this counts but I used to have recurring nightmares where I'd come home from school, walk into the kitchen where my mum was making dinner. She'd turn around, take her wig off and reveal herself to be Paul Bearer who then would try to kill me with a knife. I was about 6 years old and fully convinced that this would happen some day until RVD assured me that Bearer was 'dead' after Taker buried him in cement when I met him that same year.

In a similar vein, I remember my manager (who was in his 40βs at the time) was convinced that Donald Trump really was the proud owner of Raw circa 2010. Despite explaining to him the trouble that promoting it as a real story caused with the SEC, and the various reports of it being a storyline, I was promptly told that it was the real thing.
One of these sucky situations where I was right, yet somehow wrong.

My friend was convinced that Roddy Piper & Chris Adams were brothers, and that Jim Cornette was their cousin.
The whole "Superstar Billy Graham is dead" rumor in the early 80s had a few guys in my elementary school arguing with each other constantly.
The mystery of how Kabuki, Kendo Nagasaki & the Great Muta blew the green mist was always up for debate. Plus what the different colored mist could do to you.

My wife still says Glenn Jacob's was not the original masked Kane.
I started watching in 88 pretty soon after One Man Gang's transition to Akeem but to me the characters looked completely different and I thought they were 2 different people. Never saw the crazy vignette where he became Akeem til many years later.

Someone I know is insistant that Kane died and they brought in someone to replace him.
Of course he was a wrestling fan for a tomato season during the attitude era ive been a fan for like 20 years. But he's right.

When I was like 10 or 11 someone tried telling me The Undertaker was from a town near where I live, my best friend and I ran with it for a while until we smartened up.
Death Valley is nowhere near Pittsburgh.

Sting was coming to WWF in 2001. And in 2002. And in 2003. And in 2007. And in 2009. And in 2011.
Ironically, 2014 was the one year I ignored it.

I remember having to explain to German exchange students in high school that Vince really was the owner and not an actor.
They refused to believe me.
