I'm about to watch the KOTR '94 event for the first time in a long time. What are your memories of the PPV? Of course, Art Donovan, but what else?

The show was ok. Not as good as 93. I wish 123 Kid vs Owen Hart was longer. I wish Piper vs Lawler was good. Bret Hart vs Diesel should have been the main event, but I guess since there wasn't going to be a clear winner they didn't want to end on that note. I guess they wanted the returning Piper winning to be the end of the show. Like everyone else, I thought Art Donovan sucked.
I'm thinking of starting a thread asking people their rankings of kotr ppvs from best to worst. I'm sure 95 will be on most lists as last.

Bret vs. Diesel was really good but I think the reason they had this in the middle of the event and not the main event was because of Anvil turning heel by helping Owen win the tournament. If this went on last then Anvil would have already helped Owen win and it wouldn't have made sense for him to be in Bret Hart's corner.

My thoughts boil down to: "How much does that guy weigh?" and "Who's the fella with the American flag?"
But really it's an event I like, Neidhart's return was awesome, Diesel and Bret had a good match, Razor had a great showing, I love Owen getting his dues and there was some good performances by Kid and Tatanka here too.

Owen/Kid should've gone another two hours.
That match was so good despite being so brief. It was one of the few times where Owen was able to work as an aggressive heel against a smaller opponent which was awesome. If given even twenty minutes, those two had Match of the Year potential similar to the bout Bret would have with Kid later that summer.
Art Donavan aside, it was a decent show that I feel is overlooked since the inaugural KOTR in 1993 was groundbreaking and well-received (thanks to Bret Hart being amazing) while the 1995 event is considered the worst PPV in company history.
It was Owen's shining moment and his night. 👑💔

Sorry for the double post, but I needed to add that the Piper/Lawler main event was an absolute embarrassment especially for a company in the midst of a "New Generation" resurgence.

Yeah it was funny how they were showing clips of the "old" generation with guys like Hogan, Sheik, and Putski. Piper was part of that era and he is main eventing the "new" generation show!

And I love both Piper and Lawler, but that was an immediate black eye on the New Generation era. What a horrible match.

I think the 94' show was great. Lots of fond memories. 93' and 94' are 2 of my favorite PPVs. Give Owen/Kid 10 minutes. And the KoTR final should have gone last. Bret/Diesel can happen in the middle of the show for the Anvil thing to make sense, but damn, Piper/King should not have been on last, especially when your trying to push your "new generation".

yeah, piper ‘fighting for the kids of toronto’ was a bit too much, especially when he’s crawling all over the kid defending him from boots.
this was the first sign of roddy not realizing his glory days were behind him. or at least being in denial.

My favorite part was cut out when it was released on Coliseum home video, the mayor they interviewed at the beginning says his favorite wrestler is hulk hogan.

I remember watching this and thinking, "how can Tatanka vs. IRS NOT be the finals?!?!" because of the feud they were having and I figured they would have it be the finals for the PPV.
But having Owen Hart win it was pretty damn cool. Looking at that show now that I am older, it makes perfect sense for Owen to get the win.
Diesel vs. Bret was a pretty damn entertaining match too. But then again, each time those two faced each other it was entertaining.
The irony of that show was the WWE dissing Hogan, Putski, Andre and Sheik saying how they are "old" and having Roddy Piper main event the show with Jerry Lawler. That match was horrible and was kind of a let down.
The Tag Title match was fun.

Horrible match aside, I loved the build to Lawler/Piper. I liked how they had em taunt Piper each week until he finally snapped and accepted the challenge.
Heel Lawler was GOLD.

was a good show. nothing close to 93 tho, which was the best.
wasnt too impressed with the line up for the tourny. more mid-cardish guys than past year.
wasnt a big owen fan so didnt like that he won. was hopin for jarret, razor or bigelow. wanted to see bigelow vs mabel.
loved the piper/lawler match and glad it was last as im old school.
tag title match was cool, wish crush/yoko won.
loved than neidhart came back as well.
my 1994 KOTR rebooking:
King Of The Ring QuarterFinals: Lex Luger def. Owen Hart Bam Bam Bigelow def. Mabel Adam Bomb def. Tatanka Razor Ramon def. The 1-2-3 Kid
Crush & Yokozuna def. The Headshrinkers for the WWF Tag Team Titles
King Of The Ring Semi-Finals: Lex Luger def. Bam Bam Bigelow Razor Ramon def. Adam Bomb
Roddy Piper def. Jerry Lawler Diesel & Shawn Michaels def. Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart
King Of The Ring Finals: Lex Luger def. Razor Ramon to become the King Of The Ring

A horrible show made even worse by Art Donovan asking how much people weighed during every match.
