I remember reading that around the time of his death, the Ravishing One was looking to make a comeback to the ring. So, supposing he hadn’t passed (and man how I wish he hadn’t) how do you think he would have fit in to wrestling in 1999?
Also, how do you guys think he did as the insurance policy of DX? was he a good fit for the group or the proverbial square peg?
Apologies if this has been covered before, I dip in and out of the board so may have missed it.

I legit don't see Rude fitting in with WCW in 1999 if he was to wrestle again. I don't know why he wasn't just set collecting his million dollar contract managing Hennig or doing commentary on internet shows for WCW.
As for the DX thing, I never thought he fit that group. It never made any sense to me why he was with them.

I can't speak so much for how he would have fit into wrestling back then, but I feel confident that he would have stole my girl and broke her heart and left me a fool.

Wasn't he doing MMA training right before he passed?

I could see him in a tag team with Hennig or in the US Title ranks during that time period of WCW.Definitely a feud with Sting as well considering their past with Sting being his last opponent in 94.
And I never fought he fit in DX either. He was good in the beginning as the ''insurance policy'' but when the group officially formed, he just felt out of place.
I also would've been all for a commentary run as I liked his brief stint in ECW.
Still saddens me he passed at the young age of 40. Such a fantastic talent.

Wasn't he doing MMA training right before he passed? He was taking self defense classes to get in shape for an in-ring return. If he was in shape he wouldn't need to take those classes as he was a legit badass.

Wasn't he doing MMA training right before he passed? Yeah, he was doing it as a hobby and to get in shape. I dont think he wouldve fit in well at all if he was wrestling in that period. Guys like Val Venis and Joel Gertner stole his schtick and were getting themselves over with a new audience.

I heard stories about how Rude would go into a restaurant or bar with his wife, sit separately from her, wait until a guy would hit on her and then he would go beat the $#!+ out of him.

Paul Bearer said in an interview that Rude would constantly get into bar fights and at first it was fun to see, but then got tiresome.

There was no comeback in the works, he looked bloated and was badly out of shape shortly before his death. He did some commentary on Thunder I believe it was around Feb '99 and he looked terrible, almost unrecognizable.

If he did get back into shape like The Brain I could have seen him tag with Mr Perfect for the tag titles and fighting with Sting. I also could have seen him contending for the United States Championship. And no I didn’t think he was a good fit for DX.

I'm guessing Vader based on future purposes but I'm thinking Rick Rude would have allowed a pinfall loss to Vader. I'm surprised Vader was a few years older than Rude. He really did act like a big baby bull sometimes with "big baby" being the key words. At least WCW had a strong back up plan with Sting but that feud seems like it was on and off for like two years and had gotten boring. Crazy thing is, it continued on and off another few months. As few mentioned, he didn't seem to fit with DX. The original purposed worked when DX was forming but once the two males got in to the degenerate sexual things, Rick really wasn't a good fit. I can't see him liking working with Shawn Michaels or Triple H as "men" during the time period. As some have noted, Rick was the guy beating guys in the bar. The other two were the guys getting their butts kicked until a stronger friends comes in to defend them.

Fantastic talent....I was so surprised when Bobby Heenan said on his shoot that Rude didn't want a manager or to be in the Heenan family in WWF....To this day I think that's effin crazy. I always associate him with Heenan. Cant imagine his WWF run without him.
Nah he didn't fit DX at all....It was weird seeing him in a suit hanging with HBK & HHH....
Loved his run in WCW...it was all quality. Dangerous Alliance, feuds with Sting/Steamboat... Serious pity about his injury.
Also have the WWE Network changed his entrance music?
