What other wrestlers (circa 1999, early 2000s) had Middle Eastern or Indian Gimmicks before Shawn Daivari debuted?
Wasn't there another one running around in the WWE (WWF) before his debut? After doing a little research, I believe I am mixing Shawn Daivari up with Tiger Ali Singh. Was there anybody else?

From that time period (WWF wise) one that comes to mind is Lo-Down which was D-Lo Brown and Mosh from Headbangers with Tiger Ali Singh as their manager.

I guess you could include Babu in that as well, being Singh's servant.

I wonder if they signed Tiger Ali Singh to a long term deal in 1997. WWF never really used him much but they kept bringing him back year after year. He was around, not on TV, in late 1997 I believe somewhat as a face. He came back in summer 1998 for just a few Raws, doing a Million Dollar Man embarrass audience members gimmick. He was back in late 1998/early 1999 with no real TV time but he made the Royal Rumble. Then he was gone until late 2000/early 2001 with the Lo Down gimmick. It just seems strange they would have him around for so few spots with no fan fare and he kept being brought back.

It's a shame we can't have culturally sensitive personas. Like if Jinder Mahal were even remotely more likable, he could just wear his gear to honor his indian heritage and it would add variety without racist undertones.
