WCW was the promotion of the 90s Hey from the summer of 96 until 1998 they were number 1! Did anybody besides me enjoy the white castle of fear stuff from 93? That was so bad it was good! The debut show of Monday Nitro beat Raw in the ratings that night. WCW had as many hours of programming as the WWF did from 1992-1995, and I doubt there was any huge ratings disparity since it was a rough time for both companies.

Let's agree to disagree. I remember really looking forward to Rick Rude vs Ron Simmons at starcade 92. I think they built the match well. I was bummed it didn't happen, but Steve Williams was a good replacement.

I'm glad Ron Simmons won the WCW world title. That match with Vader is a classic.

The more I think about it, the more Vader is one of the best booked champions in WCW history, if not the best. I also think that given Vader's history pre-WWF, I'm convinced that he may be the biggest waste in WWF history. More so than Goldberg's first run and more so than Steve Williams. Vader should be a big deal in the annals of WWE.

Interesting that you mention that about Vader, because the other day I was watching the Badd Blood PPV from 1997, and saw Vader and the Patriot vs. Bulldog and Hart in that flag match, and I kept thinking, "this was the unstoppable Big Van Vader from WCW just years earlier, and now he is just a guy in a match for American pride."

Loved Vader's run on top in WCW. They booked him to perfection in the monster heel role.

Vader was a big deal and champion everywhere he went except for WWF. I find that very telling. He was a one of a kind guy who could've had a Lesnar-esque run. Had he beat Michaels at SummerSlam and built up the feud for Michaels taking it back at Rumble, that feud could've gone to Mania for the rubber match (if Michaels doesn't drop it in this scenario). Vader was something special in my eyes. And to have him paired with Cornette, double waste. Could have been the top heel in wrestling for quite a while.

Vader was something special....but HBK put a stop to that. When Vader was booked in a competitive match with a guy who was on his way out in Hall then booked to run from HBK?
The writing was on the wall...

Vader should have been a monster heel with his smoking helmet in WWE. I didn't mind Jim Cornette being his manager. It doesn't get much better than that.

Vader should have just left after Summer Slam 1996. The next biggest thing I think he did after that was the July 1997 In Your House hw title match only because Ahmed was injured again. After that he did very little and by early 1998 until he left he was basically a jobber with a gimmick and a cool name.

Ric Flair is the NWA and WCW guy. I know he didn't like working for Jim Herd and has talked about staying in WWE back in 1993. Vince McMahon wasn't going to use him as a main event guy if he stayed there.

By far the best era of WCW in terms of in ring talent in that time frame you had,
2 Cold Scorpio Arn Anderson Barry Windham Big Van Vander Bobby Eaton Buff Bagwell Cactus Jack Brian Pillman Diamond Dallas Page Dustin Rhodes Johnny B. Badd Kevin Nash Larry Zybysko Lex Luger Paul Orndoff Raven Rick Rude Rick Steiner Ricky Steamboat Ron Simmons Shane Douglas Scott Hall Scott Steiner Steve Austin Sting William Regal
Just a crazy roster with a lot of talent that years later became mega stars outside of the WCW system.

IYH 12 was called Its Time....and he wasn't even on there. He was injured at the time but originally this was a PPV where He was scheduled to have a BIG win. But yeah HBK..... A Good showing in RR97 and being the ME @ IYH: Final Four was his last hurrah near the top. I enjoyed him feuding with Shamrock & then The Hart Foundation but by then....he was a midcarder. Paul Bearer managing him was nonsense. Come 1998 it was all over. Even a novice fan could see his last use was being fed to Kane.

Vader could have steamrolled right through HBK and became the new champion. HBK didn't want to play ball. He had way too much stroke back then.
