Ric Flair was pretty much NWA/WCW when you think of that federation. But I really found the WCW era where Flair wasn't there to be the best WCW ever!
Look at what we got in that time frame...
- Lex Luger heel turn and WCW Title reign - The Birth of the Dangerous Alliance - Sting vs. Vader feud - Ron Simmons as WCW Champion - Steamboat vs. Rude feud - Hollywood Blondes/Barry Windham vs. Ricky Steamboat/Shane Douglas/Dustin Rhodes feud
Plus so much more!
If Ric Flair had stayed in WCW in the summer of 1991, I doubt the Dangerous Alliance would have happened. My guess is the Horsemen would have remained a group, therefore no need for the Dangerous Alliance.
Luger would have won the WCW Title as a babyface, but would have clearly lost it back to Flair in a few months. That's how it always went with Flair's title changes in WCW.
Vader and Simmons may have never gotten the chance at being WCW Champions.
I just honestly think that WCW's best time frame was that era where Ric Flair wasn't there.
Anyone else agree??

Early 90s WCW always gets a bad rap, but they had a lot of excellent talent there and their product was more enjoyable than what the WWF was putting on at the time. Even though the Steiner Brothers, Lex Luger, Ron Simmons, Dustin Rhodes, Steve Austin, Big Van Vader, Brian Pillman all ended up leaving, they were doing great things in WCW before going to the WWF. It is kind of weird though how Ric Flair of all people was kind of a bridge between the Hulkamania Era and the New Generation Era.

Bell to Bell WCW was second to none during this time. I just wasn’t a big fan of their storylines and production. Now that I’m an adult I can appreciate what WCW was doing at the time but as a kid I just couldn’t get enough WWF. That cartoon wrestling was like candy for my little kiddie brain.

There were definitely some strong points, especially when you consider how Flair was the face of the company. I think the biggest issue for me was that they didn't fully pull the trigger on any any of the star-making opportunities they had. The Blondes came and went quickly and neither guy ever got the main event spot in WCW that I think they deserved. Same can be said for Scott Steiner, who at that stage had the look, moveset, and charisma to be a huge star, imo. And you have to wonder where things might have been if Steamboat and Rude didn't have career ending injuries when they still had something left in the tank.
Obviously the leadership changes didn't help. But it's crazy to think of the talent they had in the early 90's (not even mentioning guys like Hall, Nash, etc that hit it big with different gimmicks). Losing Flair gave others a chance to shine, but I think WCW got pennies on the dollar out of the talent they had on their roster.

I liked the early 90s WCW, I sometimes wonder if Flair were still there would Rude get the run he got. I really enjoyed the Rude/Sting feud, thought it was excellent. I also enjoyed Sting vs. the Dangerous Alliance, Luger's run during this time, the Steiner Brothers, Rude/Steamboat feud, Austin/Rhodes feud, the Hollywood Blondes, Vader, Simmons, hell I even liked when Sid returned and Davey Boy showed up. What they really needed at this time was someone who knew how to produce a show, it sometimes looked amateurish. I also didn't like the implementation of the disqualification rule when someone came off the top turnbuckle or when someone was thrown over the top rope.

I think the top turnbuckle ban was because the Light Heavyweights were outshining the rest of the talent. As for the over the top rope ban, I had no idea what they were thinking.

Great time for the company for sure.Loved Ron Simmons winning the belt during the Summer of 92, Vader as always was awesome, Rude coming in during late 91 with the Dangerous Alliance forming soon after(LOVED that stable),Steamboat/Rude BB 92, Great tag division with teams like Steiners,Gordy/Doc,Arn/Eaton,Blondes, Freebirds etc. Oh yeah they got Jesse Ventura on commentary in early 92. BIG score there.
My favorite time period for the company is 88-90 but these years is up there with it.
I loved the WWF product of the early 90s but I liked the fact WCW treated it more like a sport so it was good to have that alternative back then. Us old school fans really had it great back then. Man what a time to be a wrestling fan!

That cartoon wrestling was like candy for my little kiddie brain. this about sums it up. I would love to see some no-bs style wrestling similar to that and very early ecw emerge. I watched it all after the fact. WCW was the first wrestling promotion I watched though, right around when Savage came in. But Rick Rude being the top heel and showing wwf what they missed out on, sting at arguably his peak in ring, and Vader just emerging as a one of a kind beast. great stuff.

I need to dig deeper into that era of WCW, but consider it a pretty entertaining time to revisit.
Most of the in-ring stuff was really good. Meanwhile, the corny angles and lame characters were so bad they were just as good. A solid blend of great wrestling and wrestlecrap.

Just as stupid as Doink chopping down some redwoods and dancing with bears in the Pacific Northwest.

Early 90s WCW is some of my favorite wrestling ever. I love Vader's run, as well as Rude and Pillman.
Also, though his role was a bit much and he always assumed the audience would be confused, I do love Bill Watts as an authority figure.

LOVED early 90s WCW.
Sting was finally shining as "the guy". LOVED when he beat Luger for the strap.
The Dangerous Alliance was a fantastic faction.
Miracle Violence Connection vs The Steiner's feud was greatness
Rick Rude was an absolute killer....his feud with Sting was awesome.
Vader vs Sting was great....THAT strap match....
