Official AEW Dynamite Thread: 10/2/19 A NEW ERA IS HERE

Felt a little much to me. Like the brawls WCW always used to end the shows, which if you're going for stuff people haven't seen before, it helps to produce something that wasn't done to death.

I enjoyed the show. It held my attention the whole way through and the production overall took a nice step forward from the PPV's. My only gripe is that they continue to devote heavy tv time to some undercard acts while others have barely been seen. But I can't really fault them for loading the first show with many of their biggest stars.

I would have liked to see Tye in the spot Sammy was in during the main event to continue that storyline. It cements Sammy as a heel, but it just felt...off. Otherwise they did more than enough to get my 2 hours next week.

Perfect way to end the show. For any viewer that has no idea who is who, that basically separated the heels from the faces that will be utilized most. Surprised LAX is a heel team, but it seems to fit as they are so fluid in styles in ring or brawling. Excellent start to a fun future. I felt all the right vibes from WCW, ECW, a nice hint of new gen and old school. I will be back for more.

The show was decent. Swagger/Hager is an okay surprise, but i'm sure they don't want to blow their load on the first episode.

Odd to me that the Jurassic Express was a dark match when they are getting so wildly popular.

I think Riho as the first Womens champion was probably a good call to keep a wider fanbase in the beginning as there will inevitably be a ton of people mad about a transexual winning the belt. They can work that in later no problem.

The double promo from SCU was... weird and the Obama portion seemed outdated and out of place.

Jericho using the back elbow is probably due to his age. Its smart to adopt a new, less physical, finisher as you get older. And we all know he's getting older. Though he still has the charisma to carry himself as a top heel.

Guevara turn was a straight shot to Cody's cubes. That's insta heel heat. So i guess we thought he was a tweener at first, but now we know where he lies.

Page doesn't really do anything for me personally. I think he would be a great tag wrestler though.

Did anyone see Swagger pick up the leg to that "table" like he was going to use it as a weapon but Jericho point out that it had legit nails sticking out of it, so swags just threw it back down? Lol

They keep teasing Moxly. Simular to when Austin was on TV but never wrestled while healing from injury. It actually made him a bigger star just by his segments.

The first show was a lot of "look at our wrestlers", which is easily lost on people who don't know them. Hopefully, even though they said they will be less mic heavy, we still get some promos and start getting stories going. I know there's not much to build in your first show, but now's the time to start getting people invested in the characters.

I will watch again.

Its been nice not having recaps all the time, it gets really annoying for someone like me who watches everything (and has an attention span) to be constantly reminded "this is what happened last week, this is what happened last month" etc

I watched AEW on DVR since i was working. I also wanted to watch AEW first, but i forgot to record on Hulu. Thank god for TNT West for the 3 hr delay. Btw, TNT should not have a replay after the premiere. Hopefully it was only for this week imo. Anyways,

Pros:
- JR, Schiavone and Excalibur on commentary. I still like JR, Excalibur and Goldenboy better, but these 3 were good together as well.
- Cody vs Sammy Guevara. Sammy is great. This was a good way to open up the show, if NXT had opened up with a different match.
- MJF. Just MJF. In one year, hell be AEW World Champion and a top star.
- SCU segment in Washington, and the segment with the Lucha Bros.
- PAC vs Adam Page. Great match.
- Riho winning the title. I gotta give AEW credit. They gave up the press for crowning a trans woman as the Womens Champion in a nationally recognized promotion to give Riho the belt. Plus, good job on whoever did Nylas attire. Way more flattering than what she wore at All Out.
- Main event was good.

Eh:
- Jericho attacking Cody. I get it builds their match, which good for them. However, its what Jerichos been doing for years now. Eh, didn't care too much for it.
- Brandon Cutler. Only there cause hes friends with the Bucks. At least his match lasted short, sweet, to the point to put MJF over.
- No DQ when Moxley attacked Omega? Eh, at least do a ref bump or distract him with the outside action.
- Eh, Jake Hager

Cons:
- Angelico and Jack Evans segment. Eh, i normally like these guys, but the segment with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes was not good.
- Too many commercials (I understand NXT had limited commercials, plus the split screen, but still). Plus the transition to the commercial breaks felt like it was bad timing. I hope they fix that along the way.
- Constant mentions of win-loss records. I get they wanna still true to "wins and losses mean something", but its the start of the f***ing season. Mention it when it actually means something months later.

Overall, good first show. But after watching both AEW and NXT, NXT definitely had the better show, but with limited commercials, Takeover quality matches, plus two huge returns for NXT, it was hard for AEW to compete. Now, the bigger picture is, where this competition goes from here. No way can NXT put on Takeover quality shows every week. Itll devalue Takeover. AEWs show felt like half the matches couldve been saved for PPV, but the rest of the show was TV quality with a purpose.

Also, i was only expecting a quarter of the posts that we got tonight for this thread, especially since no one threadheaded All Out. Originally i was gonna just have 1 thread for this year for Dynamite and then go from there. However after tonight, if you guys want weekly threads for Dynamite, go right ahead. However ill be giving my comments after the show, unless im off work. My plans anyways was to watch AEW first, then NXT.

It is true that they shouldn't do things like WWE. However, they're on national television, so they should be doing something to introduce the casual audience to characters that aren't well known. So if there is anything they should be stealing from WWE, its how to introduce characters to a national audience. So far they did a good job introducing us to Sammy Guevara, SCU as example. They need more of that.

Overall I thought it was a very good show, but not perfect. I will watch NXT later today. I did catch the last few minutes of it after aew ended. I'm looking forward to the tag team tournament.

It had some imperfections for sure. But overall I enjoyed it a lot. He pace moved well and we got to see a little bit of everything to start off the series. I’ll definitely continue watching
