I watched the Summerslam match this morning. You don't need a thousand moves just to have a good match. I'm not sure why Lex Luger is criticized so much. Yokozuna was a great champion and could really move for a man his size. He reminded me of Andre The Giant a little bit.

Shouldn't this be in the classic forum?

With Hulk Hogan leaving and Bret Hart already having been champion and lost, WWF needed to do something quick and so they chose Lex. I know history craps on Lex for many reasons (too much too soon, supposed "ego" and Elizabeth's death) but he's about as good as they could do in such short notice with two months before a major PPV. I think very highly of Lex, even before his accident and religious awakening, I think he was very fan friendly before that and was grateful for his place in wrestling.

His Narcissist run and early 90s WCW heel run aside,I was never a big Luger fan. With that said though he definitely deserves a nod in the HOF.
Also we cant have a thread about this feud without this!!…

I have always said his best work was in NWA and WCW. I still enjoy his stuff in WWE looking back at it now. It is also nice to see them use a real All American for that pro America storyline against Yoko Zuna. He had some good matches with Tatanka as well.

lex, when he was out to prove something, could perform well. the yoko match, other areas of his wwf run, and his initial nwa run show it.

It is also nice to see them use a real All American for that pro America storyline against Yoko Zuna. He had some good matches with Tatanka as well. Lex was definitely a WCW/NWA guy much like a Flair, Windham, Arn Anderson etc...guys who tried their hand in WWF and did well enough but stayed very briefly before returning to longer term employment with WCW. I think in that regard it made Lex work even harder and put more effort into his WWF matches as opposed to WCW where going out and doing his thing was a lot more natural. His WWF run, to a lot of fans, seemed forced but I commend Lex on the job he did in WWF. I'm also sure WWF only saw Lex as a last resort option considering he wasn't a WWF home grown talent so he had to work around most likely knowing he had to prove something to WWF management and the other wrestlers. He also had to work around knowing Bret Hart, in early 1994, was the one being groomed for bigger things than himself and knowing putting him in the rumble and wrestlemania building towards a championship win was ultimately meaningless to his career.

Heck yeah Lex Luger thread! I love me some Lex! I think he gets a bad rap but was a really good hand. He had a good look, had decentish promo skills (The early WWF ones were great), he could put on a good match tell a good story, he sold his own kicks in his later WCW run, and he had charisma

Lex is a guy I was never a fan of, but have grown to appreciate more as I get older. I love his stuff when he was teaming with Sting. Especially when they were WCW tag champs and Luger would come out behind Sting, yelling at the kids that Sting just high fived. Sting turns around and Luger makes nice. Good shit. Yokozuna I find to be quite a bit overrated. He was fine but his matches weren't that good ever. Not to mention that weird time period when they booked Cornette to be the mouthpiece despite Yoko already having Fuji.

I always liked Lex Luger. I would definitely put him in a top 20 list if I wrote one out. Not sure where he would be numbered at, but he'd make the list.
Lex vs. Yokozuna will always be the biggest dud ending in the history of the WWE. Everyone wanted Lex to win the WWE Title that night at SummerSlam, and he got a count out victory. Such a flat ending. If that had happened in this era?? We'd hear the same reaction from the crowd and online that we got with the recent Hell In A Cell main event.
You can't have a count out or DQ ending for a PPV main event. You just can't. It doesn't just take away from the match, but the entire event itself.

There's this other wrestling board I go on where one poster always points out how Lex Luger had his best matches when he wore colored trunks(not black).

I always enjoyed Lex Luger. I was so pumped for him to be the WWF Champion at SummerSlam, but he looked like such a freaking idiot for celebrating the way he did. Fast forward to 1994 and they made him look like a total fool again with the whole Million Dollar Corporation. Luger should have turned heel and I think it would have been pretty awesome. Still, I always felt that even in the WWF his actual in ring work was always underrated and people never gave him the credit he deserved.
During the 1993 UK Rampage, he wrestled Hacksaw Jim Duggan and I was going nuts for Luger and people around me were like "what the hell is wrong with this kid" so much so that my dad asked why I was cheering for the guy everyone else hated lol.

I always preferred him as a heel. Although I really liked the Allied Powers tag team with the British Bulldog.

They did give Lex Luger the world title in WCW and made him a superstar. I still liked the Lex Express and feel like he could have done more in WWE. I can only remember his matches with Mr. Perfect, Yoko Zuna and Tatanka.

They should have offered Sting double his pay.
