I'll be posting pics of the figure's I purchased on ebay for christmas presents to myself. I'll add new pictures by this friday I hope. My digital camera adds alittle more brightness to the pictures.
First up, is NECA's Freddy .Vs. Jason Deluxe Boxed Set.
I'm not good at giving reviews, so bear with me.
Packaging - ***1/4
Freddy & Jason come in a large window box, both in attacking stance facing forward. You can easily see the custom bases. The Graphics are actually one of my favorite parts. My one big complaint is the huge number of twisties.
Sculpting - Jason ****, Freddy ***1/4
Jason has his 'real' face on under his mask, and it's quite gruesome. Jason's face was shown in the film. NECA worked with the Special Effects Production Company on the film to capture the actual appearance of Jason.
Jason's body is appropriately damaged and scarred. The hand sculpts are made of rubber. The overall leg sculpt allows him to stand great on his own, even without the stand.
Freddy is also highly detailed, but I did have a one minor issue with him, but I'll get to that in a while. The detail work on all three faces and heads is amazing, but there's not much difference between the three heads.
Also the hat fits best on the head it came with it, but it can fit on the other two heads.
All three heads can fit on the body if you like, because they all have a peg, But I think the one with the magnet (that was intended to be held by Jason) should've left the peg off. It would've looked far better hanging in his hand without it.
One thing about Freddy is little to no damage on the body. Here alittle more damage would've looked great, especially the abuse he had taken up to this part of the movie. One real issue with Freddy's sculpt is the scale, he seems slightly too big in comparison to Jason.
While the detail on Freddy is great, especially all three heads, one of my favorite works is on his right glove. The fingers don't move, but the pose they chose for the glove is prefect.
Paint - ****
There's not much color variety here, but even with the drab browns, reds and grays, NECA has produced a very eye catching set.
The most complex work is on Freddy's faces and Jason face of course, where the eyes, teeth, and skin have to be perfectly done. There's no slop, and everything is clean and neat.
Paint work on the bases was painted very good, especially the flame effects.
Jason's mask has one of the best paintjobs I've seen, the dirty brown, along with the rub marks on the red designs, it's gives it very realistic look, and it's even in scale.
Articulation - **1/2
These are alittle more like statue's than action figure's, but they have a decent number of joints to allow for some variety in their poses.
Jason has neck, shoulders, wrists, waist, ankles and a left cut elbow. The joints are tight, and he stands great on his own.
Freddy has neck, shoulders, wrists, waist, ankles and cut joints on both elbows. When i said i had one minor issue with Freddy, the shoulders, elbows are very tight almost to the point where it might break if i move them alittle.
Accessories - ***1/2
Both figures come with a burning dock base, they can be posed separately or together. The flame effects look very good as I mentioned.
While Jason doesn't need his stand, Freddy definetly does. Freddy's right foot is posed in a half step, so getting him to stand was almost impossible.
There's a small separate Freddy .vs. Jason Plaque that you can put anywhere.
Jason's mask is removable, so you can count it as an accessory, he also has his trademark machete.
His right hand is also removeable, the second hand has a magnet in it to hold one of the three Freddy heads. You can swap the hands easily, with very little chance of it breaking.
Freddy has the three heads, he also has his hat.
Overall - Jason ****, Freddy ***1/4
I split up the overall, simply because I like Jason more than Freddy. Freddy isn't bad, but Jason is perfect in sculpt and paint as you can get.
NEXT Up, NECA's The Crow Rooftop Battle Scene Boxed Set, Movie Maniacs Series 7 12" Leatherface, Movie Maniacs Series 3 Edward Scissorhands, Movie Maniacs Series 3 Snake Plissken, Movie Maniacs Series 1 Leatherface - PG
