I remember reading somewhere that back in 2013 The Shield were to be booked in a feud with John Cena but they supposedly turned it down.
Now looking back Cena had a few matches with them, but they never put in a direct feud which makes me wonder if that was the case.
Considering what happened to Nexus and The Wyatt Family it's a blessing that the feud never happened because it would've made them look like a joke.
Did anyone else ever hear those rumours?

Never heard those rumors, but Cena wouldve made a great Shield member for a day when they were good guys.

When in 2013 do you imagine this would have happened? The Shield did feud with Cena briefly at the start of the year, and won. But then JC was champion until SummerSlam, so that ruled him out of contention for a long trios feud. Then he was off for a couple of months, then he won the World title to build up to the unification at the end of the year.
I don't really see the window there for where the Shield could've taken a few months of John's time.

too bad they didn’t book it - CM Punk could’ve skipped his feud with them and had more time to recover, and maybe never would’ve left then without such terrible physical treatment by the company.

I remember a SD where three matches main evented, the first two were squashes but Cena-Rollins had a great one. Also a segment where Cena was really walloping the Shield guys with a chair, what a d*ck lol
Always thought they missed the opportunity at Royal Rumble 2013 to lay out the final three (Cena, Sheamus, and Ryback), and it would have led perfectly into their 6-Man tag at Elimination Chamber. May have encouraged me to actually watch what was otherwise a garbage fest.
