Jake Roberts gets cheered and loses to Hulk Hogan regardless. The only guy who ever stood his ground to Hulk Hogan was Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Jake would have done the small circle of towns with Hogan and probably be put into a feud with another top babyface at the time. JYD perhaps, or even Tito Santana.

I remember Jake mentioning that he and Hogan were scheduled to feud with each other when he was a heel, but the crowd was showing a little too much love for Jake. Vince apparently didn't want Hogan to look anything less than Superman at the time so those plans got scrapped.
He was always one of those "cool" bad guys so I can definitely see this being the main reason why Vince had him turn babyface. Unlike most, he didn't lose any of his edge making that transition which is a testament to how brilliant Jake was playing that character.

If Jake didn't turn face we wouldn't have gotten some of the best feuds of the late 80s; Jake vs. Rude, Andre, DiBiase. So, I'm okay with him turning face. It would have been interesting to see them try that again in 1992 when Jake was heel and Hogan was kind of getting booed.

He could have feuded with all the Babyface wrestlers though like beefcake, Warrior, Santana, Duggan, Savage. That would have been cool

That would have been cool True, but I kind of like the heels he worked with a little better. Throw in his feud with the Model and Earthquake in 90/91 to go along with the 3 I mentioned above and that was a nice run for him. Plus, if he stayed heel from 87 through the 90/91 then they probably would have turned him face at that time to change things up and we probably wouldn't have gotten the Savage/Jake feud in late 1991.
