WWE should just release those guys. It would probably be better for the wrestling world. We might even see a big superstar break out because of it. Luke Harper would be a great addition to NWA.

Just received a response directed to those unsatisfied talents, as relayed by a potential future Press Secretary for Vince:

Even if they're unhappy and unutilized, it behooves WWE in the current climate to keep them under contract. Their payouts are probably relative pennies to the bottom line, and there's no business sense in allowing talent to potentially make a name for themselves (and their new employer) by cutting them loose.

It blows me away these guys haven’t gotten together and formed a union. This sh*t would stop immediately. They’d also have health insurance and likely a pension/veterans fund like the NFL has setup.

It is like buying a fresh loaf of bread and not making a sandwich. The bread gets old and you have to throw it away.

LOL!!! Yeah, ok. I totally agree with you, but, that is never going to happen. And yes, I said never in wrestling. I say release the ones that want to go. Why the heck would they want to throw money like that away?? And it's not like AEW is going to hire every single person that leaves WWE. Imagine all the money WWE would save getting rid of dead weight like Harper, Kanellis, Sin Cara, etc.

I wish they’d get rid of talent way more often. If you look at WrestleMania 1 compared to WrestleMania 5 compared to WrestleMania 10 compared to WrestleMania 15 compared to WrestleMania 20, there was a ton of roster turnover. Now, we get new guys, but the old guys stick around. I love Luke Harper, but he’s serving no purpose in WWE currently. I’d rather see him in AEW or NWA.
The WWE roster is too big. Even if they want a tier of wrestlers that they only use to make up the numbers in battle royals etc, I wish they’d just keep the guys who seem happy to be there (Slater, Hawkins, Ryder etc) and bring in some new wrestlers who want a taste of the WWE lifestyle - they could even use NXT talent like Kona Reeves and Trent Seven in those spots.

Screw them I wouldn’t get rid of anyone. I don’t care how unhappy someone is nobody forced them to sign a contract. They signed it themselves and need to take ownership of it and honor it. If at the end they don’t want to resign then fine go somewhere else.

WWE doesn't fear AEW. Also WWE:

He knew he wasnt happy there, so he chose not to resign, and honored all his dates before leaving

In a perfect world this would happen, and talent would be able to work back and forth with promotions, but money and competition says that won't happen. Now maybe if guys stop signing with the wwe, or at least demand have non-exclusivity clauses or opt outs, winds of change might blow.

It makes sense for WWE to keep people on rather than them go elsewhere and add to the competitions roster. Its a bit of a dick move morally I guess but from a business stand point if its not hurting them financially then yeah it works.

If at the end they don’t want to resign then fine go somewhere else. That’s kind of a silly way to look at it. WWE releases people from contracts. If they can do it, talent should have the option to ask for it too. Now, whether WWE grants or or not is their right. But to say someone should always just shut up and stay quiet just because they signed a contract is just silly. Especially if said person was told one thing would be done with them only for something completely opposite to happen after signing. It’s not a black and white issue. There are way too many grey areas regarding these things

Look at if from a management perspective as opposed to a fans point of view. Because I don’t see how that’d benefit WWE. They can afford to pay them to sit out their contract, so whether you like it or not, it just makes sense.

Unless it’s a health thing or they just don’t want to wrestle anymore they need to honor their contract. As for the WWE releasing talent I still say that’s on the talent. I’m sure all they aren’t promised or told anything other than they’ll have a chance to work when they sign a contract . Anything else is on them. It’s on the talent to go out and bust their asses entertaining the audience as best that they can. That’s not on the wwe. If they are underperforming, constantly getting hurt or they do something that puts the wwe in a negative way then the wwe has every right to release them. But if the talent is unhappy then it’s on them. They had the same opportunity as anyone else. If they squandered it that’s on them. Why should the wwe invest in them so they could just walk? Finish the contract then go someplace else. Don’t honor it and they deserve to not be able to wrestle for a year or the remainder of the contract.

I also am not sure if a union could work in pro wrestling especially without the backing of some of the biggest talent on the roster such as an Orton, Rollins, Reigns, etc.

WWE has released talent for things as simple as cost cutting or creative not having anything. If WWE can release talent before a contract is up, the talent has the same right to request it early. And WWE has granted many requests for releases, so it seems not even WWE agrees with you on this.

So again that is on the talent because if they were worth anything the wwe wouldn’t release them. I haven’t seen anyone who was future endeavored that wasn’t dead weight in the wwe in years. The issue is most of these people feel they are entitled to something instead of earning it. And they shouldn’t be rewarded for that. Again if someone wants to be released or quit then the wwe should uphold the No compete clause in the contract. If they are released for future endeavors the WWE doesn’t care about the clause. Everyone knows I was never an Ambrose fan in the WWE. But he is the perfect example of doing it the right way and I respect him for that. But in no way do I feel someone should be rewarded for trying to get out of their contract to go and compete where they think the grass is greener. If I were the WWE sure I would release them, but I would damn well hold the no compete clause against them.

These guys are independent contractors, not employees. The no compete clause wouldnt hold up in court if the guy they were using it on fought against it. Lesnar successfully fought it back when he left 15 years ago.
