In all honesty, I think 2006 was a one-man show, Edge. I feel like Edge carried the entire year himself with his feuds with John Cena and Mick Foley.
Here's what I think was wrong with 2006:
- Khali debuting - Didn't use The undertaker effectively - Batista was injured half the year - Kurt Angle left - The continued mega-push of John Cena - Rob Van Dam's WWE title reign - WWECW relaunch - Smackdown runs out of top stars - Rey Mysterio's World Heavyweight Championship run

Edge was the star. I was one of few who loved the 2006 DX reunion. That was the DX I grew up on. Rated RKO and John Cena. King Booker got a well earned run, and some fan matches all throughout the year. Not my favorite year. I didn't really care much for SmackDown, besides seeing Booker and Batista. On Raw I only really cared for what was going on with Edge/Cena/Orton and DX.

It was the last decent year of the ruthless aggression era. It wasn't a terrible year, but it wasn't excellent either.

One thing I do know, a lot of people stopped watching around this time period.

Guerrero passing away in '05 and the WWE subsequently exploiting his death didn't help.

Edge and RVD made Raw seem important for the first half of the year.
As for Smackdown, I couldn't really tell ya, since I didn't watch it then, I remember reading the spoilers for it at least.

It looked like Benoit, 'Taker, and Angle were going to carry the show; but Kurt left and they never capitalized on a Taker/Benoit program when they should've. I liked King Booker, but he didn't have a lot of good matches throughout his reign. The return of Batista felt forced and rushed too. Smackdown was really bad, but Raw was pretty good. I has hoping Van Dam was going to have a good WWE Title reign

I think 2005 and 2006 were the worst years for WWE since 1995. Easily too.

He was so over that they put the Intercontinental title on him within a month?

I was really put off by WWE around then, and kind of fell out of wrestling. I couldn't stand Cena and his whole schtick, and a lot of the storylines were seemingly garbage. Not to mention a lot of toilet humor, that hasn't aged very well, looking back. When DX initially formed in '97, it was edgy, and something different. The reunion was a joke. And it didn't help that they didn't have a very good or interesting under/mid-card. I was graduating highschool around that time, and that might be why I fell out of wrestling there for that timeframe. It wasn't til TNA started doing some pretty good stuff, and ROH was making some waves in '07/'08 that I started watching again. And honestly, I wasn't much on WWE again til around 2011. The whole Ruthless Aggression era kind of had a "Jerry Springer" stigma, IMO(which the Lana/Rusev/Lashley thing is in that territory). And while the Attitude era had a lot of that, it was something new, and there was a decent roster from top to bottom. And that's another thing; there were so many throwaway gimmicks and characters around the mid 2000's. Looking back, there weren't really any guys aside from the main event scene that made any sort of impact long-term. And WWE weren't doing a very good job of building future talent, and above all, I had no connection or really any reason to care about any of the characters at that point.

2006 was decent, but compared to 2007 it felt like a pinnacle year.

I hated 2006! The tasteless Eddy Guerrro storyline, Vince McMahon/God storyline, Rey Mysterio being a jobber champion, new ecw, John Cena's awful promos, and Edge wins the title and loses it 3 weeks later. Ratings were going up little by little with him as champ and they take it off in 3 weeks. 2006 is one of wwe's worst years. Right up there with 95, 01, 03, 09-11, and these last 3 years.

Undertaker could of had fantastic year, but after Henry was given pretty horrible one.

Undertaker could of had fantastic year, but after Henry was given pretty horrible one. 'Taker was in limbo the entire year. I thought with the Kurt classics they'd both carry Smackdown along with Benoit. Taker feuded with Henry which was (meh), then Khali (horrible), then Kennedy which was decent at best. If Eddie wouldn't have passed, I'm sure Eddie/Taker would've been the main Smackdown feud in 2006. They saved Batista/Taker for 2007 (which was smart). Ultimately, they should've had Taker/Benoit as the top Smackdown feud for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Don't remember much except Rey as Heavyweight champ and Jeff Hardy re-debuting
