This guy had great matches with Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Lord Steven Regal and Rey Mysterio Jr. It is too bad that he didn't have promo skills. I think he would have atleast made a great IC champion. He was a good choice to be a member of the Four Horsemen.

He was a vanilla midget. I wasted 2 hours of my life watching a shoot interview with him and it was dull like he is. Good wrestler, but that's it!

I enjoyed his ring work. Very talented in the ring, but if we are being honest I didn’t believe him as a good fit to the Horsemen. Really back then out of Mongo, Malenko, Pillman and Benoit I felt only Benoit belonged.

"what are your thoughts on wrestling Jushin Liger??"
"Good match, fun wrestler, good person" - Dean Malenko
"what are your thoughts on wrestling Eddie Guerrero??"
"Fun matches, good talent, great guy" - Dean Malenko
It was a sweet trend. No in depth details of much when it came to that shoot interview.

Malenko was one of the best in-ring technicians of the time. Those were the glory days of the WCW Cruiserweight division.
He had that hot feud with Jericho in 1998 that resulted in one of the biggest pops in WCW history. The fans were rabid for that angle which probably was the peak of his career. He was a quiet guy who played a similar role as the "silent assassin." It worked for him although that coupled with his size definitely capped his ceiling back in that era. I'll always remember going to the mall and picking up the 1997 PWI 500 magazine around Christmastime. In a year that many consider one of the greatest in the history of pro wresting, Dean Malenko was #1.
A great wrestler who had a great career. He will never be known for his promos although many say he is one of the funniest guys backstage. Maybe that humor just doesn't translate well when doing shoot interviews.

I enjoyed his runs in ECW/WCW but man did I hate the ladies man gimmick the WWF gave em towards the end of his career.

I think a bad shoot interview actually shows how good a person a wrestler, in this case Dean, can be. He's not putting on a show for a pay day. I get we pay for shoots to hear the dirt and the good, bad and ugly but there are a few guys who will say anything, maybe even making up a story for a pay day. The interviewer should also do some prepping with the wrestler so that the interview does come out more to the liking of the fan even if the wrestler can't really "shoot" on their fellow wrestlers.

Exactly. One of my favorite wrestlers of all-time is Tatanka. Most of the shoot interviews involving him are filled with praising opponents and overall not very controversial. He seems content with his career without having to put down anybody for the most part. Is that boring? Maybe, but unless you want him to fabricate stories what else do you expect him to say? As wrestling fans, we just need to admit that when we watch a shoot interview we WANT that drama and controversy. We want a guy to talk crap about someone else or explain how they were held down or why a company/promoter sucked. It makes for a more entertaining view, but some guys aren't like that. If somebody had a fulfilling career without many bones to pick you can't fault them for that.

I think Eddie Guerrero should have been in the group with Ric Flair, Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko with Arn Anderson as the manager.

It's funny that he left wcw because he wasn't satisfied with his push. In wwe he was used much worse than wcw. Hell he won so many titles in wcw. In wwe he won that joke of a light heavyweight title and he jobbed to Lita!

In a year that many consider one of the greatest in the history of pro wresting, Dean Malenko was #1. I'll never forget when he won that Cruiserweight battle royal as (correct me if I'm wrong) Ciclope, and unmasked. That was one of the best pops ever. The whole angle and storyline of him losing his confidence, and as Mene Gene put it, "Taking his ball and going home", cuz he couldn't beat Jericho leading up to that moment was some of the best story telling in wrestling history. It's stuff like that that a lot of today's wrestling is sorely lacking. And as much flack as WCW gets for "not pushing" and "burying" a lot of their talent, they were great for keeping things interesting from the top to the bottom of the card, especially around '97. It just sucks they didn't capitalize and keep the ball rolling...

I enjoyed Malenkos work & Iceman character. I agree with you PJ he wasn't a good fit for the Horsemen & the less said about McMichael being in there the better....LOL.

That's alright if some people think he didn't fit in with the group. He reminds me of a 1950s style wrestler. I enjoyed his tag team matches with Chris Benoit. I still believe he would have done great in the IC division.

I have seen pictures of both Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit in suits. They did pull off the look for the Four Horsemen. The only thing that needed work was the promo skills. You throw in Eddie Guerrero and you have a superior group of talented wrestlers.

I didn't dislike the interview because there was no drama or dirt(though he did say Sandman was a whacko). I hated it because he didn't go into detail on a lot of things and he was vague.
