Has it ever been discussed what the plans for Rick Rude were to be had he not suffered his back injury against Sting? He just came off his third WCW International Heavyweight Title win and seemed to be positioned as a top heel going forward (I know it was 2nd fiddle to the WCW Title but still fought over by top guys).
I also wondered how his run would have panned out had he been there when Hogan and Savage arrived. Would he still be a top heel, or would he have taken a back seat like most other WCW stars for Hoganβs cronies?
So much potential was lost when Rude went down IMO.

i think he definetly would have been a top heel had he not got hurt. i also think he would have been like waltman, bouncing back and forth between companies, never settling on one place.

If they didnt turn em face during the feud with Vader than yeah a feud with Hogan would've probably been a lock.A feud with Savage in 95 would've been great. Still saddens me though we never got the match with Vader at Slamboree 94 in Philly

With Hogan coming in, Rude moves to the #3 face at best behind him and Sting. Throw in Savage later that year and he drops to #4. I think remaining heel would have been best for Rude, and a possible feud with Hogan after he was done with Flair and Vader.

Yeah he was such a great natural heel that a face turn just wouldn't feel right. Can you imagine him not ripping on the fans pre-match?

I really liked Rude in WCW, he always seemed to have great feuds (Sting, Steamboat, Rhodes). I would have loved to have seen a Rude/Vader feud. Though, a Savage/Rude feud in 1995/96 would have been epic. Another interesting question is, would Rude have joined the NWO or stayed with WCW if he was still an active wrestler in 1996?

Ravishing Rick Rude vs. Macho Man Randy Savage for the World Championship Title Belt in either company would have been talked about for decades as the greatest feud ever. Imagine the promos and matches.

A babyface Rude vs heel Hollywood Hogan for the belt would've been a sight to see.

I am pretty sure if not Bruce Prichard (another podcast) they said Rude was well on his way to recover (back was coming good) and make an in ring return at WWE...

Iβd guess heβd be nWo. Probably take Curtβs role as the top midcarder of the group.

Rick Rude as a good guy would have been a bad idea.

While Iβm not a fan of the idea of Rude as a face, him and Big Poppa Pump is a feud Iβm instantly sold on.

with his buddy curt hennig showing up not too long after, heβd be sticking around until he did the switch over for a feud with Austin as he wouldβve liked.
wouldβve loved to see it too.

Wait a minute!! Could Ravishing Rick Rude have joined the...Four Horsemen!? Maybe Mr. Perfect doesn't turn on the Horsemen if Rude was 1 of the 4 with him. Ric Flair, Chris Benoit, Mr. Perfect, and Ravishing Rick Rude, with Arn Anderson as the manager could have been as special as the WWE Hall of Fame version. That would have been incredible. Bobby the Brain Heenan would have no choice but to join his family.
