Harper is a solid talent he's singles run with the Intercontinental belt should have made him breakout. WWE's booking kept putting him back with Rowan as a tag team. During Rowan's push they brought Harper back with him, then separated them during the draft.
The Ascension never got their footing on the main roster after weeks of vignettes hyping them they flopped quickly,
Sin Cara a solid wrestler, but essentially was just a jobber to the stars he was the Tito Santanta, SD Jones type guy who had the crowd support but was just used to make the heels stars get over.

I still maintain that timing hurt the Ascension. Having legends beat them down so quickly after they debuted nullified their momentum. Had they been going strong for months and got beat down by them, different story.
Look at Shield. They dominated and dominated and dominated, and then Jake Roberts somehow got involved and "embarassed" them with Damian the II (was that the original snake?). Didn't hurt them.
Ascension debuts and like 2 weeks later, are getting destroyed by "legends" and never got any big wins thereafter. NXT was new. Not many knew them. They just saw an LOD ripoff getdestroyed by guys collecting pension.

Good. They kept on bitching on social media. Cut out the cancers and move on. And let these guys try other places. They were not happy so why waste the money on them?

that's one way to contextualize it if you wish the narrative to be that. however, there's no clear indication that that was their logic behind their decisions. and considering AEW has been doing quite well, i don't really think your comment holds much weight. Yet they were signing people to max deals to keep them from "jumping ship" before AEW's big launch and now that AEW has launched and lost half their viewers from their first few shows they are suddenly ready to start releasing people. I think its a safe bet using common sense. so the wwe doesn’t think Harper is a good enough talent to use strongly, but does think he’s a good enough talent that he could’ve imposed a risk if he switched companies according to your view. that’s pretty ass backwards by my books.

So essentially what they are saying is they wanted for AEW to shoot their wad after all the hype, realized they're barely competing with WWEs 3rd brand, realized getting rid of dead weight wasnt going to hurt them so now they're starting to clean house. That's what I'm thinking too. I love AEW, but people are tuning out every week because the masses don't care. WWE realizes that and aren't scared anymore to let people go there. If Dynamite was still getting over a million people every week these releases wouldn't happen.

I'm sure it is also plausible that people within the company believed it was a bad image to continue to hold guys against their will, and would discourage talents in the future if they felt they would eventually become trapped in catering purgatory and only be trotted out during contract negotiations and efforts of "appeasement".

I hope Mike and Maria are next. Not because I dislike them(I don't), but because they want it. At least Mike does.

Doesn't WWE own the rights to the Sin Cara character?

The Ascension can go to NWA with a heavy metal or rocker gimmick. It would be similar to The Headbangers. I think they would get along with Billy Corgan.

Doesn't WWE own the rights to the Sin Cara character? Pretty sure considering they continued to use the name and character even though the OG Sin Cara was no longer employed

Supposedly more to come...? Who else was asking out? - Mike Kanellis - Matt Hardy has been hinting at wanting out, then again i don't really see him actually leaving at this point - Rumours of Cedric not happy - LHP hinted at wanting out Then they'll probably cut some costs on talent that won't be used - No Way Jose - Mojo Rawley

Pretty sure considering they continued to use the name and character even though the OG Sin Cara was no longer employed I think the character is pretty much dead by now with little value. Since Hunico got that shoulder tattoo, he was likely going to be the last guy to play the character. Putting a new guy in the mask now would be odd, unless WWE wants to go for the Tiger Mask approach. But i doubt people would care enough to get behind it at this point.
