Let's say that something in this world happens where you can only watch one year of wrestling, ever! Meaning you can watch every wrestling promotion that existed during that one year, but only for that year. What year would everyone pick to watch??
I know that 1995 is my favourite year for the WWE, but I hated WCW then, and ECW was decent.
If I had to pick one year to watch forever, it would probably be 1997. I thought that WWE, WCW and ECW were on fire that year. Wrestling hadn't become a world wide trend yet like it did in 1998 - 2001, and that 1997 year was booming for all 3 companies, as well as USWA as well in Memphis.
So what year would everyone pick to watch??

Very tough choice but I'll go with 1989 strictly for both WWF and NWA.
WWF you had the Mega Powers exploding,Demo/Busters feud for belts,Rude as IC Champ,Gorilla/Bobby gold as usual on PTW plus you add in Piper later in the year etc.
NWA had the classic Flair/Steamboat trilogy, Muta debuting,Flair/Funk feud, GAB and Havoc that year were GREAT etc.

2007 is my favourite year of all time, first year i started watching wrestling. But i'd go back and watch 2006.
At the time i was able to keep up with most of the current product whenever i was allowed on the internet, or got to rent the newest PPV on DVD etc... So 2006 WWE PPV's were kind of my catch up knowledge to get to current day 2007.
2006 is my second favourite year, and even though i've only ever seen the PPV's and caught up on the occasional RAW/SD/ECW, it just had that perfect badass Ruthless Aggression feel. The atmosphere, the look, the themes and the wrestlers all felt so gritty, cool and badass. So i'd love to live through that whole year of wrestling.
If i could even go back to 2006 and start watching then, i would.

1992.
WWF had the best Rumble of all time that year, Flair's two reigns as champ, Bret's ascension to the main event, Bulldog as I.C. champ, Savage's last run at the top (in WWF), Warrior's comeback, Mr Perfect's face turn and Bret and HBK's first WWF title match.
WCW had the Sting/Luger feud, the Steamboat/Rude feud, Sting vs Cactus at Beach Blast, Vader as champ, Simmons as champ and the King of Cable tournament.
Just a solid year in my opinion.

Tough choice, but I would go with 1987. It was the first year I watched wrestling and I could rediscover why I fell in love with it. But I can also go with 1988-1990 for WWF and NWA or 1996-1998 for WCW.

Tough choice. I may have to go with 1997, WCW was on fire and WWF was starting to turn the corner. The Sting storyline and build to Starrcade 97 was great and the Bret/Austin feud was must see. You also had the Macho/DDP feud, the NWO storyline was still going strong, and the development of some of the key wrestlers going forward; Austin, Rock, Mankind, HHH, Guerrero, etc. Not to mention that ECW was doing well and creating stars or their own; Taz, Sabu, RVD, the Dudley's, etc. After that year, I might go with either 1991 or 1992. I really started getting into wrestling really hard at this time, this was also the first time I even heard of WCW. WWF at this time was still going well but I think WCW was starting to become something great, they had a lot of raw, young talent; Sting, Vader, Austin, Rhodes, Steiners, Luger, Simmons, Hall, Nash, Pillman, Mick, etc., not to mention they had some great veteran talent as well; Rude, Anderson, Eaton, Steamboat, Zbyzsko, etc. Great times.

id prob go with 1989! LOVED both WWF & NWA at that time. all ppv's were awesome. we had 6 sat nights main events, 5 clash of champions, the wwf main event on NBC with mega-powers break up, the no hlods barred movie and cage match ppv. GREAT YEAR of wrestling!
Edited to add this from my Best/Worst of 1989 thread:
1989: Another AWESOME year of Wrestling! All PPV's were excellent (4-wwf & 5-nwa ppvs). SNME & Clash's were kick ass too (6-SNME & 5-clash's). Forgot there were ELEVEN free Events on, PLUS the Friday night special WWF NBC main event! Another one of my fav years. Life was good, my jr/sr year in high school. partying & chasing girls! Lots of good times to go along with GREAT wrestling. Give anything to go back and do it all over again.
best: studd returning and winning rumble (he's my 3rd fav wrestler) the rumble - was awesome all the way thru mega-powers explode - what a fued zues & no holds barred - loved it! SIX GREAT sat nights main events (most ever in a year) mega-powers vs twin towers on NBC Main event rick rude got wwf ic belt brain busters - loved em (were in 4 of the SNME events too) wrestlemania - so many great matches summerslam & survivor series - both AWESOME powers of pain were hot hogan/beefer vs savage/zues cage match andre/twin towers team starrcade 89 iron man matches flair vs steamboat x3 (2 ppvs & 1 cotc) FIVE GREAT clash of champion events horseman vs gary hart international luger vs steamboat fued wargames 89 nwa tag teams: road warriors, midnight ex, steiners, doom, skyscrapers, varsity club, freebirds, samoans, fantastics, dynamic dudes etc

I might say 1985. WWF exploded in popularity and started the transition from the Backlund-era where there was still the pretense of it being a legitimate sport with some characters sprinkled in to a spectacle with everyone being a character. Savage, Hart Foundation and Bulldogs were getting started in the WWF (Stampede guys might've been there a little earlier but I think those teams started up in 85) and were really exciting to watch. And the first Wrestlemania of course, in retrospect not their greatest show but the hype around it was just incredible. I'd probably take any year from 84-90.

Probably 1989. WWF was great the entire year (SummerSlam and Survivor Series 1989 are in my top 5 WWF/E shows of all time and 1989 was the best year for Saturday Night's Main Event in terms of match quality) and was really the peak of Vince's vision for the cartoon version of wrestling. NWA had the Funk return, the Flair/Steamboat feud. Everything in Japan was fantastic, from New Japan and All Japan to UWF 2.0 and the formation of FMW and on the joshi side of things, All Japan Women's was great as well, There's not a lot of lucha from '89 on tape but what I have seen was fantastic.

I'm with you that I could take any year from 84-90, I'd probably even throw '83 and '91 in there too.

2008 you had Edge/Taker feud on SmackDown, Jeff Hardy chasing the strap, Big Show/Taker which was much better then expected You had Jericho/HBK on Raw, Punk's first reign, Batista/Cena feud. And ECW was kinda there and allowed some entertainment and TNA wasn't half bad.

This is impossible. The better question might be, "If you could only watch one WWE calendar year (Raw after a WrestleMania, to the following WrestleMania) of Wrestling, what "year"??
I'm going with the Raw after WrestleMania X7 to WrestleMania X8.
Going with the actual calendar year, I'd say 2002, to go from the end of the Invasion, into the WWF / WCW Amalgam Universe, becoming the E, the introduction of the Draft and Brand Extension, to the beginning of what will eventually become my favorite set of Championship Title Belts ever used on WWE TV. And let's not forget that Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels were WWE World Champions for the last time in their respective careers.
WCW 1996.
I wasn't really a fan of ECW during the original run. I just didn't have access to it for most of the original run, but I did see everything on the Network. To be honest, my favorite year for ECW was between One Night Stand 2005 to One Night Stand 2006. That's probably horrible to say considering we're only talking about 2 shows, but the reunion got me so hyped (for someone who did not actually watch ECW), and the relaunch made my imagination for its potential go as wild as it did for WCW in 2001 (if you just pretend ECW was NXT, you might like it more), that I was just really excited for the Land Of Extreme.
Going with the actual calendar year, I'd say 2006...by default.
I seriously did enjoy TNA on Spike, especially during the introduction of the Main Event Mafia. For TNA, my pick is from the Impact after Bound For Glory IV, to Bound For Glory 2009.
Going with the actual calendar year, I'd say 2009.

It would have to be 1989. Ricky Steamboat won the NWA world title.

Easily 1998. All 3 companies were red hot that year. WWF had a solid BIG 5 PPV shows along with canβt miss raws. The Monday night wars were in full swing. 1998 is a no brainer for me

Not sure if I would be able to narrow down to just one but id say 98 has got to be up there. Id also throw in 02 and 08 as #2 and #3.
