I had always heard Internet rumors that there was plans to bring back the Papa Shango character in the Attitude Era. On the new Table For 3 episode with the Nation, Godfather confirms that story and they actually show screen test pictures of his new look!
How do you think the Shango character would have worked in 1997? I'm assuming the natural thing would be an initial feud with Undertaker

Charles Wright went with the right gimmick for the Attitude Era

I may be in the minority, but I LOVED Papa Shango. That gimmick was my favorite of Wright's by far.
In the Attitude Era? I honestly think that he would had been stuffed into the Ministry of Darkness/Corporate Ministry. He'd job out to whichever flavor of the month they were going against (whichever member of the Union, or whomever) and/or to eat a Stunner every week.
I also really enjoyed the few times that Wade Barrett would troll Twitter by stating that Shango would be returning on whichever big event was coming up.

I'm guessing Papa Shango would be involved with Paul Bearer, the Undertaker and Kane.
I remember in that time frame, Paul Bearer was using Papa Shango's theme song as his own when coming to the ring for interviews.

The Godfather was a classic example of a gimmick that came around at the right place and the right time. Some of the Papa Shango stuff was corny when it happened and would have been absolutely ripped to shreds by the Attitude Era fanbase.
Charles Wright made the best decision of his career when he traded in that voodoo staff for a pimp cane.

The Godfather gimmick made Wright a Legend and he will always be remembered for that persona, however with a different direction there is no reason why Shango wouldn't have worked.
You had Kane and Undertaker shooting bolts of lightening at each other and the crowd loved it so a voodoo character could've worked as well.

If Shango was around during that era, Instead of goo coming down a dudes head it would've been blood.
I can only imagine the crazy stuff they would've did with the character during that time period. A feud with Taker is definitely a must.

If Papa Shango’s character would have evolved during the attitude era I think it would have worked. If Gangrel worked why not Papa Shango. I also liked the gimmick in the early 90s. I liked it better than Godfather really.
