Honestly I knew nothing about him before AEW. I do think wrestling needs comedy fit into a show but after awhile his gimmick gets really old. It's like rinse/repeat. Get in ring, put hands in pocket, ginger kicks, give thumbs up, put hands in pocket, super kick or do a move.
He's over with the fans for sure but I just can't really get into it.
I really like it. I also agree that there needs to be comedy built into the show. I think the evolution of the gimmick is to actually see him in a 1:1 match and not just as a sideshow attraction to the Best Friends gimmick. I've youtubed him wrestling this style in 1:1 matches in the indies and he is capable of telling a story in the ring with this low energy gimmick.
It's novel as well; everyone is screaming and yelling and look like Brian Cage, then you have this guy who is an ordinary man that does ordinary things.

He probably saved 20 years on his wrestling career. The man can be doing that gimmick at age 70 years old. All he does is walk slow, kick slow, and then has that one big dive to the outside. That isn't even needed. The man can make a living off doing nothing for years to come. Congratulations to him for finding a way to keep active in wrestling forever!

I remember stumbling upon a match with Orange Cassidy vs. Gentleman Jarvis. Being completely unfamiliar with both, I was actually entertained. It was bizarre, and ridiculous and unlike anything I'd ever seen. I was intrigued by Cassidy, nonetheless.
I can totally see why some would balk at his style. I love Cornette, but I've heard him rant on OC countless times. Yeah, Cassidy's schtick is basically going against the "believability" and traditional wrestling formula, but isn't this supposed to be fun? I certainly think a lot of what Cassidy does is gold. He has an aura he's created. He's the cool guy that takes nothing seriously you wanna root for, but he's just lazy and smug enough you wanna see him get destroyed. It seems like the gimmick is something he could only go so far with. But he's made it as far as AEW, at least.

You either love him or hate him. I love what he is doing. I watch pro wrestling to be entertained and many things in wrestling entertain me. The sport aspect, the promos, the high spots, and the funny moments. Orange Cassidy is that fun, comedy part of the show that I am a fan of. But I can see why people aren't fans and everyone is entitled to like (and dislike) whatever they want.

I dig the dude. I mean, look at that 6 way suplex from last week; I was confused...then OC put his hands in his pockets and joined in to the suplex....I was then sold on the reason for the spot, and its greatness. And no one can say that 3 way hug aint over. I mean, even Statlander opening his water has Nicholas Sparks wanting to write Notebook 2 about them

He's brilliant! Had absolutely no knowledge of him before Double or Nothing, but he instantly won me over. His gimmick is just hilarious, and I really don't think it could ever get old. And like already mentioned, it's the type of comedy that even a non-wrestling fan would find funny, instead of the usual comedy gimmicks that most might cringe at.

I like him him. I've seen him live on the independents prior to him being signed to AEW. First time I saw him, I knew nothing of him prior, but he was already working his current gimmick and the smart fans already knew who he was while chanting his name. He did his usual hands in pocket, nonchalant style until he got hit in the face. Then he worked a surprisingly good match with the local talent after that. I've been a fan of his ever since. When given the opportunity, he can turn off the comedy and work.
He's coming back to my neck of the woods in April to work the biggest show of the year. He'll definitely be a hit at that show and sell a ton of merch.
I think he's funny. I enjoy your schtick for the most part. I think in some matches they really force his spot in, like go out of their way to make sure he gets a comedy spot and I feel it's not always needed. But for the most part, I like him!
