piggy backing off jking & hbkbdc's threads, what everyone's thoughts on the 1996 Rumble? Thought it was better than 1995 for sure, but still wasnt the best rumble. undertaker vs hart was a great match. razor/goldust was good too. the rumble match was ok. hated that vince's boytoy won again tho. and letting him toss out yoko/vader was BS as well. was nice to see it go back to 2 minute intervals again. was hoping for a jake the snake, vader or diesel rumble win. my fav parts were yoko/mable & yoko/vader clashing. not one of my favs but give anything for this back over todays wretling. Found this on WWE 2k18 youtube site. This woulda been a badass rumble with all these guys in it. I'd want warrior, jake, sid or vader to take it: Attachment Deleted

Not a very good Royal Rumble. Hunter Hearst Helmsley is not an ideal iron man for the match, and Bob Holly was in there the second longest. Biggest issue for me is that Vader should have had a more dominant showing, even if he needed surgery shortly after. This was his debut and a ten minute run before getting eliminated by Michaels doesn't cut it. Michaels was the right winner. Highlight for me was Lawler hiding under the ring.

Definitely better than a year prior. Vader's debut, return of Jake are my highlights. King hiding under the ring was gold.
Bret/Taker was another excellent World title match even with the non decisive finish. I liked how they continued the Taker/Diesel feud here.''I'm not afraid of the dark!''
Razor/ Goldust was a good IC Title match.Putting the belt on Goldie was a good move.I liked how they changed the strap after this to all gold to fit his character.
I also gotta mention Mr. Perfect on commentary. He was great here in the heel color role. Him and Vince are an underrated team in my book. I also enjoyed the run they had on Superstars in 92 as well.

Not my favorite but better than 1995. Glad they went back to longer intervals. The matches were good, the rumble was good, but nothing spectacular.

1996,97 and 98 are the worst Rumbles imo. Utterly boring in every sense.

98 is a great RR. RR 97 gave us the ME of IYH Final 4 which is an excellent match so I'm good with both.
RR96 is one of those Rumbles that you knew who was going to win...It was all about HBK and this was his time..which was fine by me then & now. Its easily better than 1995 but I would have liked a better showing from Vader. He should have been booked dominant & got tossed by HBK just after He dumped Yoko out.
Bret va Taker is a great match but the end of this and Bret vs Diesel in Feb make him look weak as p*ss. He was the WWF champ FFS..and he was used to prop up the UT/Nash feud twice.
Goldust beating Hall was not a shock either...thought they heavily telegraphed Hall was losing with the booking on the run in. He was scheduled to regain from Goldie @ WM but of course a phone call from Easy E changed WM12 drastically for Hall & Nash....

He was scheduled to regain from Goldie @ WM but of course a phone call from Easy E changed WM12 drastically for Hall & Nash.... Yeah, that's where I differ with Kevin Nash. In one of his shoot videos he talks about this being the #1 reason he left the WWF, Bret being difficult to work with and not wanting to take the jackknife powerbomb in their cage match before Undertaker dragged him under the ring. Nash said that Undertaker got so pissed when Bret said he didn't want to take the powerbomb in the cage match and that it would make him look weak, like he lost 2 PPVs in a row, Nash said Undertaker yelled "dammit, it's not all about you." But they were using him (Bret) to get their feud over, so it was kind of about him (Bret). Also, it made Nash and Undertaker look like they should have been champion and not Bret. This is just me but I don't think its a great thing to make your babyface champion look weak or that their are two guys who should be champion over him. Also, this didn't help Shawn any either, Diesel and Taker appear to beat Bret in under 25 minutes but it takes Shawn over an hour to beat Bret. But, this is probably just me overthinking things.

Yeah I remember that shoot. Bret looked really bad on the way into WM12...no doubt.
As I said above he looked weak as piss.

This one really did lack star power. Not as bad as 1995 but pretty bad when you have Bob Holly, Duke Droese, Isaac Yankem, Marty Jannetty, Fatu, Tatanka, Kama, Bob Backlund among others. None of them had really been relevant over the previous few months and were really just bodies needed.
I also didn't enjoy the non WWF wrestlers when they were brought in. Rather than Omari, Dory Funk, Squat Team and Doug Gilbert, WWF should have just brought back Adam Bomb, King Kong Bundy, Waylon Mercy and Blu Twins for the night. They were gone for months but still more relevant than the other guys. I also wonder if Pat Patterson booking the match made for Vince McMahon not knowing all the details. He seemed to have no clue about Omari, Squat Team or Doug Gilbert other than the basics.

97 is just boring. It truly lacks star power. Lack of star power? Austin, Hart, Mankind, Undertaker, Vader, early forms of Rock and Tri, Terry Funk, Jake the Snake, Owen Hart. Austin, Hart, Vader, Undertaker, Mankind all made it to the final sequence too so it wasn't a completely telegraphed conclusion. You had Austin being made to look like the big time main eventer he was going to be while his feud with Bret Hart was furthered. Great royal rumble.

I honestly thought this PPV wasn't bad. Even back watching it at the time. I enjoyed Shawn winning because it FINALLY felt like they were going to pull the trigger with him, and I liked Bret/Taker. I think '96-'05 were just a string of fun Rumbles and PPVs. Someone said these were horrible? Well, '97 and '98 you could truly see the seeds of change happening, and I loved that. '98 was a great Rumble. So much good crapgoing on in it. The Rock's Antics, 3 faces of Foley (with the classic Funk/Jack beating the out of each other as the first two out. Austin finally being on his way to being the TOP TOP TOP guy...the Casket Match and that ending that I was waiting for. That was a truly fun Rumble, and overall PPV...it was like "The Attitude era is here and we are ready to take the fight to WCW if it ing kills us" it was awesome.

I really liked the entire 96 Rumble event.
The Rumble match is fun to watch. It's one of my favourite Rumble matches ever. Not just because HBK and Diesel are the two final guys, but just it was one of those Rumbles that had a lot of stuff going on at all times.
I didn't care for the DQ finish at the end of the PPV with Taker and Bret. Diesel giving the bird to Taker was funny though!
