Very predictable Rumble...Its one I'm really not fond of at all. HHHs win facilitated the murder of Jericho's title reign and status as main eventer in cold blood by HHH & Steph. To this day I still find it horrific. Absolute abuse of power by them in the worst way imaginable turning the World title feud into a program between them with Jericho as the bystander. I feel HHH's win over Jericho at WM18 would've been easier to swallow, had Hogan/Rock main evented. But it's obvious the plan all along was to get the belt on Lesnar once he debuted. I loved Jericho as champ/main eventer, but once HHH and Hogan got the reactions they were getting, Jericho just wasn't in the cards. Everything after the Rumble was just passing the ball til Lesnar got his shot. I do wonder what would've happened had the crowd rejected Triple H upon his return. Would Austin have faced Jericho at Mania? Maybe Jericho goes over Austin, then drops the belt to Hogan at Backlash?

Would Austin have faced Jericho at Mania? Maybe Jericho goes over Austin, then drops the belt to Hogan at Backlash? I genuinely don't think there was plans for Lesnar to be champ that early...At that point Vince had no idea how the entire nWo thing was going to pan out or anything like that...Hell HHH had to drop the belt because reactions for him cooled considerably( you have to believe that was the Y2J feud & Stephs involvement) & the positive reactions for Hogan were totally unexpected. Crowd was all over the place in 2002...they started cheering UT the moment he got the belt...LOL I have zero problem with HHH going over Jericho...ZERO. It was the build up that made Jericho look like enhancement talent that blew. when HHH won at 18? the crowd didn't give a sh*t. Rock vs Hogan should have been on last. They missed the boat with Jericho entirely. It was He who should have turned on Team WWE @ Invasion then went on to beat Austin @ Summerslam for the WWF title. The heat from the turn & going over Austin would have cemented him inside 1 month as a bona fide top guy. People will say " wahhh Austin wouldn't have dropped it to him" but he would. Austin was the one who pushed for him to be made Undisputed Champ.

Triple H winning is a sour note to me but it was clearly the right call for their business. He was white hot with his return. Now if only they could have done him vs Jericho better.
