Since there's so much pro wrestling/MMA crossover...idea! I name a former or current pro wrestler, and the next poster says how they think that person would do/would have done in their prime at MMA and why. And then they drop a name and the next poster continues on the chain. I'll start!
Bret Hart. He has an amateur wrestling background, so how would he have done in the '80s or '90s as an MMA fighter?
Please don't lock! Most of the posts will include current WWE talent.
A lot of analyzing pro wrestling is looking at the work of it, and the shoot of it. Pro wrestling started out as a shoot in the late 19th century in Europe and America in carnivals and the like. It only became a work because selling tickets to see a work brought in more money than gambling on a shoot. But MMA/UFC is essentially starting pro wrestling over, bringing fighting back into a shoot format. But people cross over all the time...the two are brothers!
Also, obviously, don't be a smartass and say Lesnar, Rousey, Riddle, etc.

I think Bret couldve submitted a few guys in the early UFCs with his father's submission training.
Karl Anderson

Kurt Angle probably would've done pretty nicely for himself.

I think that Matt Riddle guy would do pretty well.
But honestly, the majority of wrestlers COULD hold their own or be successful with the right training.
Some current guys i think could be good at MMA:
- Aleister Black - Daniel Bryan - Cesaro - Bobby Fish - Killian Dain - Chad Gable
Past guys:
- Kurt Angle - Chris Benoit - Finlay - Scott Hall - Arn Anderson - Haku - Tazz

Haku in his prime would have absolutely mullered everyone.
If Kurt could have learned to be a proficient striker then absolutely.
Submission artists like Benoit, Bret, Regal, Fit Finlay, Malenko? etc.
I'd say Shinsuke but he's already got that background. Same with Gallagher...
Danielson? He'd give it a good go. Same with Taz.
What about someone like Yoshihiro Tajiri?

I really am not sure now. Given his interest in MMA, who would ever have expected Punk to be so poor at it after years and millions of dollars spent on training with top level camps? So I don’t trust in any wrestler who is just an MMA enthusiast now.
So although OP asked not to, I’d only really be confident going with people who have done it and had some success - Brock, Jack Gallagher, Lashley, Swagger, Riddle, Batista etc. Or people with a strong wrestling or boxing background, like Shorty G, Corbin and a young Kurt Angle.

Clearly it's Bob Holly and JBL lol. They should bring back the Brawl for All with these guys: The Miz Luke Gallows Karl Anderson Jinder Mahal Mojo Rawley Big E Kofi Kingston Big Jordan The winner would face Tyson Fury in a Brawl for All bout at Wrestlemania.

Honestly, it just depends.
Some people can train forever but when they get in that ring, if they’re not confident in themselves, they’re going to fail. I think Punks problem is that this wasn’t his passion. MMA wasn’t something he truly wanted to do but instead it’s something he wanted to TRY.
Punk was never a gym rat though either. He didn’t workout like most wrestlers do.
Guys like Swagger, Batista, etc. were gym rats and built up that muscle, stamina and conditioning which is a contributing factor to why they faired better.
At the end of the day, you just don’t know. Cowboy got dropped by McGregor in seconds lol.
If you put your heart and soul into something because you want it to be your career, you’ll succeed in the long run as compared to someone who may just wanna “try it out”. I’m not saying that those who try things don’t succeed (I.e. see popular vine stars who got tv shows and stuff from simply trying the app) but they all fizzle out and don’t get to the level an actual actor who puts in the work like i.e. Leo Decaprio did and does.
But if I had to guess,
Montez Ford because he has the training of being able to kill a man lol
