Edge was retired fom 2011-2020, main eventer then, main eventer now. Has this sort of gap ever occurred before? I mean, the guy is in the darn Hall of Fame and he's about to have another run! I know sometimes guys retire for years and come back for a match or a short deal, maybe even doing that several times, but Edge has signed a three-year contract for I'm assuming a long, non-stop run. HBK was out for four years, but that's nothing like this. Can anyone think of a story like this at all? I mean, I don't know what Bob Backlund did between 1984 and 1994, but I doubt his departure was injury-related; also, he didn't make a three-year return.

Even though it was only 4 years HBK's gap felt like forever. When he returned in 2002 it seemed like a lifetime ago when he last wrestled.
As far as Edge goes I would say Hogan's 93/02 gap is the only one that's comes close.

Maybe The Rock? He wrestled at Wrestlemania XX and didnt wrestle again until Wrestlemania 28

In terms of being retired and coming back from and injury the answer I think is NO.Again we really don't know how much he's going to be wrestling going forward.I hope works the TV and PPV's and wrestles a few times a month but even if its just a few match here and their over the next three years its still great.Just so happy that whatever this run is over the next 3 years that he's going to get the chance to end things on his terms and that his kids are going to be able to see him wrestle in person.

They wasted The Rock's first match in almost 8 years in a tag team match against The Awesome Truth

Edge isn't going for a non-stop run. He's almost definitely going to be a part time attraction. What's his contract, something like 25 regular appearances and 5 matches in 2020?
Bret Hart had about ten years between his termination from WCW, subsequent stroke, and his strange string of matches in 2010/2011.

Guy was doing house shows. Color me surprised, even if all he did was stand on the apron and lock in a Sharpshooter or two.

Yeah as above have already mentioned;
The Rock - I was surprised when he returned and won the title again, but again not 9 years.
Bret Hart - He didn’t really ‘work’ much so not sure if we can even call it that but I guess you could call it a come back haha.

I guess The Rock. I wouldn't say Bret ever worked a match during his return in 2010.

Yeah, I'd say Lesnar's situation is most similar to Edge's.

Bruno Sammartino retired from in ring in late 70s/early 80s from injuries and returned sporadically years after that.

Yeah, I'd say Lesnar's situation is most similar to Edge's. Lesnar was wrestling in Japan against Angle, Nakamura, A-Train, etc. until mid to late 2007. Less than 5 year gap.

I thought this thread was going to be about something else. Not sure if I'm disappointed or not.

Santina Marella went nearly 11 years between matches not sure why everybody is making such a big deal about Edge.

Goldberg had been gone nearly thirteen years and came back to win the world title.
