Wrestling Memories: WWF Trading Cards
Today I am talking about something I was obsessed with collecting as a kid and that is WWF trading cards. Actually, I collected tons of trading cards NBA, football, Marvel, Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (well Hero) Beavis and Butthead and more. However, it was the WWF trading cards through the years that I have kept. I currently have five different sets of WWF trading cards that are complete as well as a ton of other random sets that I have not completed. The first set of WWF trading cards I ever got were for Christmas of 1990. It was a complete set of the Classic WWF Trading Cards that featured cards based on WrestleMania I-VI. I freaking loved these cards and I still have them to this day. These have certainly seen better days, but the reason for the poor condition is because of the hundreds of times I have looked through this over the years. It was pretty awesome getting a complete collection in one go, but it would be in 1991 when I became a trading card collector. Here in the UK, the 1991 series of Classic WWF trading cards were huge! I remember these being traded all the time at school and I was all in. I actually have a complete set of these cards and I love the design of them and when I think of the early 90s WWF, these cards always pop into my mind. I always thought it was cool how the cards had a space for an autograph on the back. The following year we got another collection of these Classic WWF cards and these were split into two series. These were heavily themed around SummerSlam 1992 which was of course here in the UK. These cards are really cool and as someone who was at SummerSlam 92, I made sure to have all of the cards about that event. I never did get a full set of these, but I love the ones that I do have. The next set of cards I was all in with was the 1995 series of Action-Packed WWF trading cards and by a mile, these are my all-time favorite set of trading cards. There is not actually a ton of cards in the set, but I love the gold foil that they have and as a huge fan of the New Generation era collecting these were something, I had a great deal of fun with. Actually, during 1995 I was collecting these and the Merlin WWF Stickers (the book had Diesel on the cover) and it was something me and my friends who were also wrestling fans were super into. I love these cards so much that they are the only ones that I have only one card in a pouch in my binder so I can see the front and back of the card. After the 1995 collection, I kind of lost interest in trading cards and the only ones that I had were the ones that came in WWF Magazine for a short while. It was not until 1999 when I would jump back in. They made a set of cards for Smackdown and these cards were cool in that they were full photos with nothing round the edges or anything like that this was another set that I went all-in with and made sure to get them all. The last set that I completed was all about The Rock. The Rock was so huge he had a whole trading card line to himself. I love these cards as they are a lot of fun. In my collection, I have the whole Rock series, but I also have mixed in these Rock foil cards that came in a later WrestleMania series as I think they fit in very well. That set featuring The Rock was the last set I went all-in with. I dabbled with the No Mercy cards, WrestleMania XIX, Raw Deal, Restricted Access, Payback and probably more sets that have slipped my mind. However, the desire to collect them all was never really there again. I see that these days you can get even cooler trading cards that have bits of ring skirts, t-shirts and so on, on the cards, not to mention autographs and other cool stuff. While I think stuff like this is awesome and very interesting it is certainly a rabbit hole I do not need to jump down. What are some of the series of WWF trading cards that you remember and enjoyed collecting?

I didn't collect wrestling cards as a kid. I think I had a bunch of the 1987 ones that came out, and a pack of the Classics because I bought a pack when I was in a bigger city during summer vacation one year.
But as a kid for me in Ontario, Canada, it was all about hockey cards! I had a lot of the sets from 1990 - 1996, and then over the years sold them off and then finally had none. Until the past year when I started to buy them at a local hobby shop cause they were so cheap now.
As for collecting wrestling cards, I didn't really get into that until 2014 when my girlfriend bought me a pack of them for a stocking stuffer at Christmas time. That opened up my addiction again, and since then I try to collect as many wrestling card sets I can when they come out.

That is a beautiful collection, very impressive!!
I have a few of these lying around myself. I've been thinking of tracking down many more online in the future if I can. I love reading the little factoids on the back, and the pictures are awesome, too.

I’ve been collecting wrestling cards for years. What I love about modern sets is that they include legends cards and their autographs.

Thanks for all the comments guys, much appreciated I was looking at my card collection over the weekend and I came across what I think maybe the worst ever description I have ever read on the back of a wrestling trading card! This is from a 2006 Topps set, called WWE Insider if I remember correctly. Anyway, out of all the things they could have written about The British Bulldog, this is what they felt their little paragraph should be lol! Forget SumemrSlam 92, his classic with Owen for the European Title, his run with Dynamite Kid and his standing as one of the most iconic British wrestlers of all time. Lets just write the crappy stuff that happened to him on the back of his card. Can you think of any other cards that have strange stuff written on them?

Very cool. I have a ton of them around. I have those same albums and I also have the set from 1985 and whatnot. It would be cool to look at if I could remember which bin I have them in!

Growing up in the south it took me years to warm up to the WWF. Because of this the first wrestling cards I had were the 1988 NWA Wrestling Supercards. I didn't own any WWF cards until the 1994 Action Packed set. I had been an avid collector of all sorts of cards but for whatever reason, even when I did switch to watching WWF more, I never bought any of the cards until that 94 set.

A couple years ago I was able to scoop up an entire shelf worth of Mint WWF SmackDown cards still in the wrapping and display box from around 1999. Was probably one of my favorite purchases from that Comic Con.

I never liked trading cards. When they would come with the magazine I would punch them out, look at them, and then lose them and not worry about it. I was only focused on action figures.
