Murphy as a name sounds like the least intimidating thing ever. its either a bad cop show from the 70's or a middle aged female news writer from the 80's Buddy doesn't fare much better. Buddy Murphy seems like a cartoon character. |

I swear this happened twice already. It definitely happened in NXT when he was teaming with Blake. And I’m pretty sure it happened during his 205 Live run too.

Why wasnt this a thing in the 90s? Helmsley vs Miavia could have been huge. Hard to see those 2 not getting over with those names. Lol or how about Shawn vs Ric? Can’t wait for Rollins vs Reigns again Or Steve vs McMahon |

To be fair, the name Buddy simply doesn't fit the dangerous persona he's trying to adopt. This one actually makes sense.
Still, 'Murphy' is extremely bland. They should have had him come out saying he was sick of people still calling him by his childhood nickname, that the Monday Night Messaiah has made him a man, and from now on he wanted everyone to call him by his "real name" and just given him a new first name. Hell, call him Adam Murphy with his surname beijng Adams.

Most people have 2 names. Why not just stick with that? God knows theyll never do it to Shane or Stephanie or Charlotte. Cant forsake the names of the ancient immortal, McMahon and Flair. |

In hindsight some of them worked out for the better IMO. Rusev, Cesaro, Big E. I like Mustafa Ali better than Ali though. Of course if they never dropped the names from anybody then I don't think anybody would question Alexander Rusev, Antonio Cesaro, and Big E Langston. My initial thought on this one is that out of all of them they've done, I hate this one the least. Yeah I'd rather him remain Buddy Murphy, but I don't think just Murphy is that bad. We also had a taste of it when he was in NXT and they referred to him and Wesley Blake as "Blake & Murphy". I think that was more so just for their team name as opposed to flat out changing their names, but whatever it doesn't matter now.

Yh I agree on the name changes of Rusev, Big E, Cesaro and Elias tbh. Didn’t like Apollo Crews or Andrades changes also Ali.
Imagine WWE doing this to mid card or tag teams or even jobbers/main event guys in the Attitude/Ruthless days..... ‘RVD’ to just ‘Van Dam’ or ‘Shelton Benjamin’ to just ‘Benjamin’.
