I recently got a hold of the 2000 year of ECW Hardcore TV. I rather watch the original versions than the WWE Network stuff, since the music that they dub on the Network just makes it hard to watch. But I noticed how drastically that company had changed in one year.
When watching January, guys like Mike Awesome, Lance Storm, Raven, Rob Van Dam, New Jack, Dusty Rhodes, and Sabu were all big names along side Justin Credible, Tommy Dreamer, Jerry Lynn, and others, but by December, the company looked like a shell of itself.
I've never seen such changes in a wrestling company in a years time. Not even the WWE in 1992 had that bad of a talent drop off. No wonder ECW didn't survive. Seeing Simon Diamond and Swinger vs. Danny Doring and Roadkill doesn't scream exciting like The Impact Players vs. Dreamer/Raven or Sabu/RVD vs. Bigelow/Candido.
This thread really isn't a question or anything, just a topic of what I noticed when watching these old ECW 2000 episodes.

When you look back on the great compelling product the company put out from 94-98 and then you look at 2000 man talk about a complete 180.
Dusty's brief stint, Taz's brief comeback and Dreamer winning the belt briefly is what I think of when I think of ECW 2000. You can tell you're in trouble when you have to bring in Scotty Riggs of all people.

such a sad thing to see that that got a TV deal, and all the major players were leaving/gone, and then to top it off, TNN railroaded them and went and picked up WWE for their programing and was about to drop TNA. the modern day equivilant to this is AXS picking up IMPACT and leaving NJPW to the wayside. second decision being the dumber move IMO.

Mass exodus of talent and getting screwed by TNN.

the product changed so drastically, to me 95-97 is by far the prime of the company. even by 99 crapwas falling off hard imo. they just didn’t have the level of storytelling they’d had earlier which is what really attracts me to those earlier years.
that said, their final ppv had some gold. dreamer/cw Anderson in the i quit was a damn good brawl, and the triple threat ladder match was good for the main event. rhino was also absolutely destroying people which was entertaining, and I dug Cyrus

Cyrus blended so well with Styles in the booth during those dying days of the company.
Didn't care for that Network angle though.

I still loved it. You got some good stuff in that year... Sandman won the title. Rhino put Sandman's wife through a table. Gertner vs Cyrus. The tag devision was awesome....Wham Bam Thank You Maam. I cannot remember everything, but it was pure brilliance to this man at that early teenage time.

I couldn’t watch the original ECW for a couple reasons. First it aired around here at 2am and secondly I hated that it was presented like an informercial when it aired. I hated that presentation. I did watch it later on via WWE 24/7(?)
As for wwe’s version of ECW I watched the first episode and said “no thank you” and that was it.

To me current day Impact feels like 2000 ECW. It's still good and there are some great talents, but the product is nowhere near what it used to be. Like Tessa/Sami is good but it isn't Morrison/Aries.

ECW was paying for the TV time on syndication, just like the informercials that air at the same time and channels.
