I don't see why you would be happy they aren't making those kind. lol You can just not buy the basic ones if they release them. I am actually kind of saddened they aren't doing any basic line. I grew up in not the richest family so we couldn't always afford the nicer things. So I always think about that. I like that Mattel has a basic line that is cheaper. I think it's a good choice to have a line for collectors that may be $25 but also a cheaper line around $10 so poorer families can still buy their kids some wrestling toys. I just chose quality over quantity with Mattel. Instead of getting a basic every month, I got an elite every two months. Grew up with a disabled dad and ah absent mother. Financial Hardship is my middle name. But I wholeheartedly understand the quantity over quality kids, during the Jakks days I was one. But then I got my first Mattel basic and said no, I hardly ever got any of those. But I currently have a basic Brock Lesnar, because he don't do moves.

sadly i see the line doomed then... kids buy a big percentage of WWE figs for the price point. any interest from that demographic might cost them :/ AFA keeps telling us over and over again how big the demand for WWE elites is $20 is also pretty much the standard price point for all 6in(ish) scale action figures. I can't think of any brand other than WWE that offers two different types of articulation at the same price point. And in terms of playability, the basics are a huge step backwards. Any time I see kids in the wrestling section in store, they're looking at Elites. If anything, I think going with one style is a smarter decision. It drives all the buyers to the premium line, rather than splitting their audience. That means a) they have a much better chance of strong sell through rates and b) they only have to justify shelf space for one line to retailers.

I have to agree with the no basics line. I understand why Mattel does it with the WWE but I think AEW is still at the niche stage where a premium product is warranted.
As a 90s comic book fan, it kind of reminds me of DC and Marvel having cheaper comics, while Dark Horse was putting out a higher quality product (in terms of paper quality).

Ive always enjoyed the basics.
Cheap and look pretty good. AEW would be wise to get that line in. I could see someone buying dark order basic figure but I can't see anyone buying an elite one.

But I think it would have been a tough sell for retailers to pick up two lines. AEW is the new kid on the block, and doesn't have the established brand that WWE does. Just getting the Unrivaled line in Walmart is a huge success. I don't know that they'd be willing to carry two separate lines, meaning twice as much peg space. And with Star Wars, Power Rangers, and Marvel all successfully making 6in lines that have crossover kid/collector appeal, it's not like they're bucking the norm.

Oh yeah totally agree - I just think the wording of the original āgladā not making basics isnāt necessarily great for everyone. I 100% agree one line is best to start with but once they have a foothold be good to see them branch into an āeconomyā line for kids

I have bought basics before, but from Day 1 of Mattel I knew I was going to be an Elite collector. I would just use basics for parts and now as the basics have evolved I really donāt spend money on them so yeah Iām glad they are only doing elite style figs. Hopefully with one line we can get more talent and maybe more sets out.

Yep, I'm super stoked they're giving us less options.
You want to pay 20 bucks for Sonny Kiss, QT Marshall, and Michael Nakazawa, be my guest. But a basic line would be a good way to get figures out for some of the lower tier wrestlers.

if they made basics I would want them to have a mold in the middle, or make them like WWE Women used to be. Basics at the moment are too limiting

I'm glad AEW isn't doing a basics line. I do buy WWE basics, however, I prefer the elites. I wouldn't be sad at all if they did away with the basics line. I collect a myriad of different action figure lines, and 20 bucks is the standard. It even seems that 2021 will see an increase in figure prices overall.
