Jim Ross himself thinks Solie is the GOAT when it comes to announcers. And that’s his opinion. To me I think the 5 best announcers were in order... Gorilla Heena Ventura Ross Schiavone I know some were considered color commentary but to me they were my top 5. Does that make my opinion any less? People might not agree with it, but it’s still MY opinion. I did like Solie, but he wasn’t my favorite person to call a match. The point I am getting at here (and not singling you or anyone else out) is hbkbigdaddycool gave the reasons he didn’t like him which were he felt Solie’s voice was nasally and he lacked passion. Well, that’s his opinion of why he didn’t like him. So if people want to disagree with him that’s fine, but there’s no call to take personal shots at him. Just state why you disagree or agree with him.

For some reason I feel like Gordon Solie was around more often in 1990s WCW but everything I read now seems to suggest he either got little air time or had left and come back. I remember him doing the early WCW magazine ads (I think it was called Power Slam) on TV in 1991 and he did a show with Larry Z in the mornings or evenings and even was part of the first WCW All Nighter. I don't have any special memories but he seems like one of those guys who had been around forever and was always around during my early viewing years. It's a shame how he left WCW and even though the Halls of Fame in wrestling are sometimes a "who you know" or if you are well liked by the boss it's pretty cool that he had the guts to speak out against the WCW on the matter. Wrestling really needs and needed someone like that who would stand up against the locker room edicts and guidelines and to the higher ups. I do feel bad for Angelo Poffo because it seems like the few times he was involved with WWF and WCW there was an issue (him not getting the spot in the battle royal and him getting the WCW HOF plaque).
