I had two points to make in my statement. My first point was to be safe and make good decisions. There are still parts of the country that are not in the same type of risk as higher population areas. A target in rural Maine isn’t the same as going into a crowded LA Walmart. My second point was stating that it is not up to anyone to lecture anyone in this forum for asking questions. I’m not going to quote anyone’s response but if your agenda is to get down on someone for being in a store and asking an associate a toy question then please go on everyone’s local forum of findings and reports and lecture everyone on their irresponsible behavior. I wish everyone reading nothing but good health and happiness

Stores need to focus on stocking essentials like now like food and toilet paper. Emphasis on the TP. Also, add hygienic supplies to that list like disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer. And please, I am begging every store on planet earth right now, put rationing in place. The human race, as a community, has proven that we can't be trusted with this stuff. Store owners, take note of the ten people in line for the checkout who have all 200 packs of toilet paper. Now, stop letting them do it. I know that most places have implemented rationing, but really it needs to be universal at this point for essentials. You get one pack of TP, one bottle of hand sanitizer, one tube of wipes, and one jug of water. That's all you get for that day. The store I work at has implemented a 1 toilet paper, case of water, paper towel limit and a 2 of the same item limit on everything else.

As a RN working in a major city with growing numbers of confirmed infections that also thoroughly enjoys a good figure hunt, I cannot stress enough the need for reduced contact and exposure to public environments and people. Sure if you must venture out to get essential supplies such as food/medications/hygiene related goods a store such as Target or Walmart is certainly more likely to be a one stop/shop which reduces time and exposure outside of areas you can control the cleanliness of, so popping down the figure isle isn’t unreasonable. That said increasing the amount of face to face interactions with people you don’t have to interact with at this time for non essential items is not the best of ideas for any of the parties involved and can be more impactful and potentially harmful than we often realize. Long and the short of it, the more we can isolate ourselves now and slow the spread of this type of problem the faster we all get back to hunting figures during our regular day to day routines.
If you have a week or more of food and personal care items, and don’t need anything to live, being bored or wanting a different variety of snack food in your life can dramatically impact the duration of these inconveniences at the least. Please, please, please at the minimum follow the recommendations and guidelines from your local government and health care providers for social distancing and travel. Being outside of a major city certainly helps with increased spacing between people, but it doesn’t put rural/country/in the sticks folks in a protective bubble either.
