I’ve always been a fan of the old 80s NWA wrestling but never got to watch it because it was before my time. I’ll watch matches here and there but I don’t really know much about which years are good or not. I want to go back on the network and watch an entire year of programming but I don’t know where to start. So in your opinion what are some of the best years for 80s NWA?

86-88 tends to be my favorite. 85 wasnt terrible either. Once you go back further then that you get into the Mid Atlantic stuff and I just really didnt enjoy it as much...89+ wasnt terrible but you started to lose a lot of big names to the WWF at the time so star power really wasnt there.

Definitely 1998!!
You had Jim Cornette, Dan Severn, Jeff Jarrett, Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson, Barry Windham, Bob Holly and Bart Gunn!
Occasional appearances by Thrasher, Mosh and Bradshaw too!
Can't get no better than that right there!

for me, 88-90 were best years. i LOVED 1985-87, but those other 3 years were solid. LOTS of great matches, tag teams, clash of champion events, etc!

Start here & keep going. There are 177 parts in all. Great promos, excellent wrestling & amazing talent.

I'd say the same thing. It had more spectacle than years prior and more larger than life characters like WWF but it still focused a lot on the match quality rather than gimmick or character quality. The match quality generally made the characters. One thing I preferred with NWA over WWF is the open stadium shows. NWA had many more open stadium shows than WWF did. When WWF did a show like that, it was one of my favorites as a kid (Big Event, Wrestlefest) but those type of shows also made me enjoy NWA a lot. NWA/WCW definitely stopped that when Ted Turner took over but maybe even before and that was disappointing.

I'd say 1985-88 were the best NWA years. Prior to that it was overly regional, after, the exodus of talent to the WWF (Tully, Arn, Windham, Rhodes, etc.) was hard to hide.

Thanks for all the feedback! The WWE network has episodes of JCP World Championship Wrestling (the tv show) starting at Nov 85 going all the way to 89. So I’m starting right before Starrcade 85 and I’m going to see how far this’ll take me. They also have a good amount of Mid Atlantic from 86 so I figure I’ll catch that too.
