I’m sure he’s not, but I listen to Cornette’s podcast every week and I’m getting tired of his AEW reviews. After today I hope he’s done.

I totally get that Cornette is too harsh, but in all honesty like 90% of his complaints (on paper, not verbiage) are absolutely valid. AEW as a whole would be better with Cornette clearing out some of the garbage the promotion has embraced. And this is coming from someone who desperately wants AEW to succeed.

I'm an official #CultOfCornette member and listen to both shows weekly. He didn't say anything bad about Becky, by the way. He said it was terrible timing.. that's all.
Be glad when he is done watching Dynamite too. Also glad when Trump is in our history books, so he doesn't talk about that so much.
He does have VERY good ideas about things that would improve AEW, and that's from a fan who has attended live shows, ordered merch, bought ppvs..
I am listen to Drive-Thru now actually, not to the DoN review quite yet. I have a feeling he's going to say he liked most of what I did.
I disliked the main, so.. no surprise to me, he did as well.
I caught the Cornette reference by Tony Khan in the post-show, when I watched it too. Lol.

I wouldn't expect Cornette to have enjoyed it, but that's further reason for me to know that loving the match is a good thing lol. I'm not sure what some people were expecting it to be, but it was supposed to be fun and entertaining and that's exactly what it was for me. My personal rankings of cinematic/out of the ordinary matches during the pandemic are: 1. Stampede, 2. Boneyard, 3. Firefly Fun House, 4. Gargano/Ciampa, 5. MITB.
I also disagree that it was a cinematic match. It was not, at least in comparison to how WWE has done them. They had edits and stuff like that, sure, but the way it was shot wasn't any different than if it happened live. No background music inserted in or anything like that. It was just a pre-taped match with edits made to it.

Jim Cornette did a review of this show today. He hated the main event so much that he says he doesn’t want to watch anymore AEW and is actually mad at people he likes- JR, Schiavone, Matt Hardy, and Jericho. He’s mad at the announcers for dignifying the match and the wrestlers for being a part of it. As someone who listens to his podcast I hope he doesn’t do reviews of Dynamite anymore. Why watch something you hate? The reviews were entertaining at first, but it’s getting tiresome basically listening to him saying every week the shows suck. AEW can do no right to him. Tony Khan took some subtle shots at Cornette in his postgame conference, including when he was answering Meltzer question, so I think it's fair to say Tony is not going to be losing any sleep over Cornette no longer watching his product. He didn't bury himself at all. He said she waited until she was at the pinnacle of her career (a pinnacle FEW PEOPLE acheive) and then decided to get pregnant. He said it was horrible timing. He's right. She's hotter now than she'll ever be, and some would even say she's on the decline. Either way, the opportunity to make serious money in the wrestling business is now. It wasn't an injury or something she couldn't control. She just kind of walked away. From a business standpoint Cornette is 100% right. Had Becky/Seth waited another year or 2 she would have earned a poop ton more money that may not be available when she comes back. Work your entire life to achieve a goal. Put in more work than most people can imagine. Become the biggest female star on the planet. And then leave while you're riding the wave of your dreams. The timing on their decision (from a wrestling pov) is stupid. |

while I’m in agreement that the less cinematic stuff the better, we can’t really blame the company if it was mostly well received by fans. just as wwe was for Wyatt/Cena and the boneyard match

Cornette is grasping at the final strings of his relevancy from an era of wrestling that has long since passed.
I wouldn't worry about his opinion. His best work was in WCW 20 years ago and that's arguable bc he helped find/bring in Orton, Cena, Lesnar and Batista so maybe that was his real best work.
BACK ON TOPIC, I don't think the PPV was worse than anything else we've seen in wrestling lately. There were some really fantastic spots throughout the show and I enjoyed most of it. Was kinda bummed that Cody won, I think he's better chasing if he wants to be a babyface buuuut that's just my opinion. Solid wrestling still but man none of these shows are topping what LU has been doing. I'd go as far as to say that Lucha Underground has had the best shows so far as in quality and ingenuity. They've really been able to show their creativity off during this lockdown.
Hell everyone has and that's a positive to come from this negative. Yeah you won't please everyone. Some people think wrestling should be only 6 foot 8 inch guys oiled up in underwear putting each other in wristlocks. Some people only like superkick/canadian destroyer spotfests. Some folks can just accept it and enjoy it for what it is, which is what we all enjoy, wrestling, albeit in crappy times. The whole show isn't tailored to one audience. There's gonna be some yin with your yang lol
