So I am friends with Hannibal on FB and he posted a link to his YouTube clips on talking to wrestlers about Rick Rude. Apparently, from what Honky Tonk Man said, and I believe Jake Roberts said it too, Rick Rude committed suicide because.... and mind you this is what is said.... he had to get his penis and testicles cut off, because he injected his penis with viagra thinking it would instantly get hard and he could screw for hours. Instead it got infected and he had to eventually get his area cut off. Thus created depression, this created him killing himself.
I can honestly say I have never heard that story until today in these clips. But Jake and Honky both mention it. It could be true, we don't really know for sure. But it also seems really weird to want to inject your penis with a needle just to put viagra directly into it. Then to get it cut off by doctors?? Insane!
Has anyone else heard these rumours over the years??

If Honky says it, I don't believe it.
Everything pointed to him trying to push for a comeback when he overdosed. He was trying to get jacked super fast, and his body couldn't handle it. And that was likely because of all the previous craphe had put it through.

I made a thread about this a while ago and it's just heresy. Honky looked like he had a few drinks when he said that and I certainly wouldnt take his word as gospel, he cant possibly know as Rude died at his home so no one can confirm it. Rude was in a car accident not long before his death and it certainly wasnt the first car accident he had been in after falling asleep at the wheel. Im sure he aggravated old injuries and just took one too many pain pills and never woke up. Actually I think the correct story is that he was hitting a few gold balls out his back garden when he suffered the heart attack, his wife came back and found him barely breathing or with a faint pulse and he died in the ambulance. He was in terrible shape the months leading up to his death, theres a video I found on youtube and linked in an old thread where he's doing commentating on some WCW show and he was barely recongnisable, really bloated. Like Jake said, it doesnt matter how he died, the poor man is dead. R.I.P

Jake didn’t confirm or deny it, but you’d think he’d dismiss something like that quickly if it was nonsense. which makes me sadly wonder if there is some truth to this.
either way, he looked terrible at the end of his wcw run as we all know (there was a thread a while ago on some commentary footage), and drugs were playing a major factor. he really wanted someone to buy out that insurance policy and no one was budging.

Surely at least something would have come up during his autopsy if it were true.

I’ve seen the video but don’t believe it. Even if it were true, I highly doubt he’d tell anyone about it.
My guess is that it’s a slight on his gimmick as he was the ultimate ladies man.

Rude was a pill popper and used steroids. All that stuff combined isn't good for the heart. Wrestling is like Jr high school. Once a rumor gets started things snowball and stories get so twisted. And if you were sticking a needle of Viagra in your penis, would you be calling Honky Tonk Man and telling him??

Nah, I wouldn't say he's a pathological liar. Pathological liars tend to lie compulsively for no reason and with no reward factor. I'd say he's liberal with the truth mixed with that old school "walking uphill both ways in the snow" braggadocio. |

For the same reason anyone else would - attention/money. I like Jake, don't get me wrong - but like a lot of ex-wrestlers, he'll say anything for either of those two things. |

It's probably a rumor Honkytonk started years ago at an indy show or autograph convention and got picked up slowly over the years. Given the source it probably hasn't gotten as much attention as other wrestling rumors.
