I also never found TTL5 Kurt angle either, but I got TTL7 angle for Christmas and it was a far better figure. Ya TTL 7 had a better singlet in that it wasn't as flimsy (although some of the detailing could crack) and he has jointed elbow. However TTL 7 was inferior to TTL 5 in that came with 1 less medal and no IC belt. Belts were a big deal back then. Angle was one of those guys like Jericho, Benoit, RVD, and Edge that it didn't matter that you necessarily got the best attire because they wore different ones each week. Jericho was saying on the Major WF podcast that he purposely wore different tights every time on TV because he found out that helped you get more figures made (which translated to greater royalties) So I never really cared about getting a better attire one or splurged for new angles other than the Rebellion 2 one with all the knee/elbow pads and windbreaker pants, then put the TTL 5 singlet (and eventually the TTL 7 and TTL 9 ones I bought off my friend) onto that figure. |

HAHA, I remember when that House of Pain set was advertised to have the Stephanie figure. I searched forever for the figure before my silly a$$ figured out it was never made. Also, holy grail figures, I'd have to say getting my hands on the KOR '01 Kurt Angle figure was pretty cool after two decades. I wanted him when the set came out but couldn't find him anywhere. Then when they made the Mattel KOR Shane figure, I realized I should probably go back and get the Kurt to match. I was happy to find one, and now enjoy posing them beating the tar out of each other. If I had anything resembling a grail right now it would be the wrestling attire Stacy Keibler figure. I really really need her to make Super Stacy, but I can't find one anywhere, and there's pretty much no way to customize one to the proper height with other women's figure parts. I think you're thinking of the backstage whatever set from 2000 that was advertised to have Stephanie and Shawn Stasiak. I also searched high and low for those. I don't recall HOP ever having Stephanie it because she was in TTL 7, but I may have been mistaken or originally she may have been included over Tori. While Tori became heavily sought after, she was the peg warmer with X-Pac at the time because (1) Tori i think was out of WWF by that point, (2) DX had been done for about 6 months, and (3) female figures (besides Chyna and Stephanie) didn't sell back then (I'm sure that had something to do with boys thinking it wasn't ok to own a girl figure). Jakks also made Rock, Undertaker, and HHH like 1 per case to keep supply low and demand high for the subsequent months flood of them. Interesting fact about that KOTR series...it was originally released as a TRU Canadian Box Set with all 6 figures months before the single series came out. That Jeff Hardy was incredible at first, but by the time the single series was on shelves there wasn't really a point to buying it because the R3-2 version was out. Jakks made a lot of incredible TTL Jeff Hardy figures, but like they did with a lot of their figures they never really made a perfect one (IE their best scan, accurate/real attire, jointed elbows, correct arm sleeves) etc. |

As a kid, Rebellion Series 1 Benoit was a big one. I got it after the bowling league one Saturday in early 2001 and was the happiest kid in the world. Still think it's an amazing figure. But THE definitive grail for me was Famous Scenes 2 Cactus and HHH. At the time, it was going for $50+ on eBay and mom wasn't gonna drop that cash to get it for me and it was sold out on RSC and everywhere else. I had to settle for TTL 4, I think, Mick Foley (and that's not a suitable replacement) until 2017 when I scored the 2-pack MOC for like $28 shipped. I recently opened it due to the bubble yellowing. I love those figures. Reading these threads makes me wish I still had all my old figures and rings in one piece. Hearing other people talk about the TTL era reminds me of a much simpler, better time in life. I really miss those days. I didn't realize that 2-pack was so hard to get at the time. My friend had it and while the HHH had some good part choices and the best TTL head until like midway through RA's...I didn't like that it had the 1 tapped up leg. It was easy to just swap the TTL 9 (or later series) head onto HOP (or TTL 7 if you had that) body. The foley was super detailed and I got to own it in 2004, but the TTL 9 or Back in The Ring Boxed set were more accurate and appealing to a kid because it was commissioner foley. Ya that's why I keep making these type of posts and responding to everyone who posts about them. Figures were a huge part of my childhood and it's fun to think about (now as an adult) how easy it was to keep me entertained and bring me happiness for $5.99. I know there's always this mentality as a parent that "do you really need another new toy" but when it comes to wrestling, a new superstar you didn't have before creates exponential possibilities for matches. I one time did a simulation of how many different matches and storylines you could have with just like 8 figures (my fed from 2005-2010 was only 7-14 figures at various times). And it's crazy. With 4 figures A-D and various tag team/3 or 4 way matches you can do: (1) AB (2) AC (3) AD (4) BC (5) BD (6) CD (7) AB/CD (8) AC/BD (9) AD/CB (10) triple threat ABC (11) triple threat ADB (12) triple threat ACD (13) triple threat BCD (14) Fatal 4 way ABCD. That doesn't even account for handicap matches. When you add a 5th or 6th figure, the # matches skyrockets. So that's a big reason why adding a new main eventer like Angle or Benoit was huge back in the day. I always tried to recreate what was on TV and if I didn't have a certain wrestler I kind of worked up to the current feud by using whatever feuds they had been in before present time. |

This thread is throwing me down the nostalgia trail. I like reading these stories. Trying to think of others. I saw Rebellion 1 Benoit mentioned and that was another one for me. I think I was at Target every weekend looking for it. I actually remember the first time waking in and seeing all the new sets with that Wrestlemania 17 packaging. I ended up with a street gear Austin and the Hell in a Cell set that wasn’t (no roof). Eventually found it. Nothing beats those figure hunts as a kid and finding what you wanted. It was great other than when you got "treated" to the complete and total wave of production because you had like 10 figures you wanted, realistically (if you were a kid) weren't gonna be able to buy more than 4-5 and you had a big dilemma. Was also the worst when KB Toys got them because they were so much more per figure you had to keep it at like 2. I remember this happening with TTL 10/Rebellion 3 and ROTR 3; and the early 2001 of Rebellion 1/TTL 8/FS 1/etc wave and the TTL 9/Rebellion 2/FS 2/etc. wave. Thankfully the motherland of TTL 6-7, HOP, DS 5, and ROTR 2 happened around the holidays...but even then I missed out on a bunch of guys I wanted. Happened a lot with RA's too, but at that point I was in control of my own finances and traded/sold figures too. Another "treat" was when you went to a store intending to buy X, Y, Z (you knew they'd had them and you'd put off buying them in favor of other figures before) and then you got there and there was a bunch of new stuff you didn't know existed and sort of had to get. I remember this happened with superstars 8 (I bought bossman, Kane, Shane). I don't remember who I intended to buy because I had just started collecting and was playing catch up to hundreds of BCA's that were out, but I know the plan went out the door once I got there and saw guys who were in the corporate ministry. A weird phenomenon I encountered a lot was there would be a set with 2-4 guys I wanted and when I found the set the first time I'd find only just the guy I wanted 2nd and/or 3rd most (and so on), but then would come back maybe a few days later and find the #1 want. I vividly remember it happening with TTL 3 (came back and found Jericho days later), TTL 9 (didn't find Foley until Target restocked with rebellion 2), RAW X (Had to come back to find 2nd most I wanted Goldust, but got HBK and Lawler initially), UCF 1 (found everyone but RVD...namely Booker T and Flair), ROTR 4 (found everyone but Regal at KB...but didn't matter bc my mom had gotten me Regal for holidays), UCF 3 and KOTR (found everyone from all the holiday waves but the rhyno and brock I needed), RA 1 (found everyone but Brock who I needed more than life itself...and had to order online). The absolute best was when you got to the figure aisle and the only wrestler they had left (or one of the few they had left) from a series was the only one you wanted. I remember that happening with nWo Ring Gear Nash, AD 18 Cade & Murdoch, RA 39 Mark henry, Elite 1 MVP, Elite 2 Batista, a special series BCA al snow and jeff jarrett at a KB toys going out of business, Superstars 9 Bob Holly (i really wanted christian and they didn't have him, but needed Holly badly too...this was like 7 months after they were released at the long defunct ToysRUs on State st. in Chicago). |

Yeah, that 2-pack was a  ing nightmare to try to find at retail. Only ever saw the other two packs from that series at Walmart and TRU. I had the Commissioner Foley from the BitR box set and also one that came with the Hardcore Ring that I got at K-Mart. I liked those figures but really wanted the Cactus Jack since Cactus is my favorite incarnation of Foley and I wanted to have him as a wrestler. I'm just glad I finally got him. Ya that's why I keep making these type of posts and responding to everyone who posts about them. Figures were a huge part of my childhood and it's fun to think about (now as an adult) how easy it was to keep me entertained and bring me happiness for $5.99. I know there's always this mentality as a parent that "do you really need another new toy" but when it comes to wrestling, a new superstar you didn't have before creates exponential possibilities for matches. This was around the time of ROTR3, Rebellion 2, Finishing Moves 3 and a couple other series that escape me right now. That setup only lasted for like...three weeks before the aisle went back to normal but during that time, man, it was heaven on earth. |

For me, it was always any of the TTL 3-Packs that included the Hardy Boyz. I managed to get both of the Team Xtreme 3-packs with Matt, Jeff, and Lita, plus the “Leap of Faith” 3-pack with Jeff, Matt, and Hebner. Sadly, I never got the Bubba, Edge, and Jeff. To this day, I’m still trying to track down that particular set.
