Quite possibly and undoubtedly one of my coolest mail-days ever. For anyone who knows me personally, everyone knows I am a huge mark for "HBK" Shawn Michaels, been a fan of his the day I started watching wrestling in 1998. I just scored this beyond incredible piece! This is the actual contract from WrestleMania XX that was signed on RAW on February 9, 2004, a month before the showdown.
As you can see on the contract, it shows the match between then World Champion, Triple H defending against that year's Royal Rumble winner Chris Benoit. Triple had signed the contract in the ring but just before Benoit could sign his name where he was supposed to -- HBK came to the ring and tried to persuade Benoit that he was the man that should be facing Hunter at WrestleMania.
This 'ultimatum' fell on deaf ears with Benoit, with him reiterating that it was his shot and in regards to HBK being in the match "It's going to be me....not you!" HBK responded to this with a Sweet Chin Music that knocked Benoit out and Shawn Michaels then signed his name on the contract where Benoit was to have signed. Later that night, Stone Cold Steve Austin announced that because of the circumstances, he couldn't take HBK but he could still make the match a triple threat and thus...history was made and I now own a big piece of it.
