I know with the speculation of Sting/AEW stuff is rampant now with Sting being cancelled from the Mattell Legends line. I just want to say I have close friends in AEW who have mentioned that AEW definitely has a legends line of figures coming out with The Rock n Roll Express being the first ones signed. So maybe Sting has signed as well?

The only question, and I'm not an expert on this, is if there are any legal issues with costumes, etc. I don't know how much WWE owns of the costume designs? They've got a pretty big crop of legends that would lead to good figures, but I have no idea what they are allowed to do in terms of attires.

Where there's smoke there's usually fire. Maybe it's just some coincidental timing and Cody working the internet. But it does make so much sense. Sting is a legitimate icon, and a big name both from a tv perspective and with retailers. He's somebody who could anchor a wave.
I don't know about an independent legends line, just given how limited space is at retail and still needing to establish the Unrivaled line with retailers. But having them somewhere in the line is a given I think, given Jeremy's history. R&R make perfect sense. Maybe some other names that have AEW or Pro Wrestling Tees connections - Glacier, Raven, Road Warriors, King Kong Bundy, etc. And obviously AEW already has some great legends working for them.

Unless it's something trademarked or IP designed by WWE or another entity, there's a lot of room to work with. The Storm Hogan figures are a good example. On the Hollywood figures, they weren't able to have the NWO logos on his boots, or any NWO shirt. But otherwise the look is identical to what he wore in WCW/WWE. I assume Storm or Hogan either own or licensed the rights to the tshirt designs used from the artist. Also take a look at the Legends of Wrestling game. Some attires are tweaked due to licensing, but most are the same attire they wore when working for major companies. WWE has let a lot of trademarks from the 90's expire. Billy Gunn now owns his own name, even though it's a WWE creation that they owned for almost 2 decades. I believe Ray Lloyd owns the Glacier trademark, even though it's a WCW created gimmick. There will definitely be certain gimmicks attires that aren't possible. Or maybe the ring attire is, but an iconic tshirt design isn't. But there should be a world of possibilities.

Im with you, I think it comes down to what potential issues they could run into licensing wise. I just posed the gear/licensing logo to Steve to see if we can get some clarification. I wonder if the rumored lines are true who the companies see are figures they believe can make them a profit? Is there a huge demand for the Rock n Roll Express? Sting has multiple figures, how does Jazwares/WC make the figure unique from what Mattel already put out? AEW having the Starrcast conventions likely makes it easier for deals to be made. Based on AEW PPV's and TV I think we could see deals with the following: (Speculation) Arn Anderson (Coach gear & Wrestling Gear) Tully Blanchard (Manager gear & Wrestling Gear)
DDP (All In gear) Bret Hart (With AEW Title) since he debuted it? Billy Gunn Earl Hebner Jim Ross Taz (Announcer & Wrestler) Tony Schiavone Jerry Lynn Aja Kong
They have done tributes with legends like R&R Express
Boogie Woogie Jimmy Valiant Lance Russell Lanny Poffo & Angelo Poffo Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert Austin Idol (He is with NWA I believe) Brian Christopher
Could be interesting to see who they go after

I think the demand is definitely there, especially in the smaller quantities Jazwares will be producing. Collectors here have been clamoring for new names, any new names, for a couple years now as Mattel has had few and few first time in the line characters to work with. And the AEW roster is still pretty small, so they're doing to need some outside names just to keep from making repeats of minor characters. The cost to sign most of these guys is probably fairly low, so there's still a healthy profit margin. It's also worth noting that Jeremy personally handled many of the legends signings when he was at Jakks, so he's someone that a lot of these workers know and have worked with before. In addition to those mentioned: Dean Malenko (I think he's a part time producer) Raven (has appeared on screen a couple times) Glacier (not sure if they could do the full armor from WCW, but at least his ring gear should be possible) Christopher Daniels flashback The Natural Dustin Rhodes Awesome Kong Road Warriors (Animal kicked off All-In) early career Jericho Wishful thinking, but I think a deal with Scott Steiner isn't impossible. He's probably the biggest name out there without a figure in the Mattel era. I don't think there are enough big names available to do a stand alone legends line. But there are definitely figures that would have collector appeal.

How can they sign legends if they never wrestled for AEW?

How can they sign legends if they never wrestled for AEW? They'd sign the talent to figure deals, like Jakks did with the Classic Superstars line. Whether they wrestled in AEW or not has no bearing on their ability to make a figure.

Unless it's something they specifically created, like a specific gimmick, they really can't do anything about a Sting figure being made.

Something I was thinking of was TNA's Legends of the Ring line. They were able to put out NWA Sting attires and even a WWF Jeff Hardy (unless that was a look he wore in TNA, which I don't think he did).

WWE owns trademarks or copyright to certain phrases, names, or graphics. But they can't say "we own that!" just because somebody wore it in their ring. Trademarks also expire if not renewed/used. It's sort of a "use it or lose it" rule.

I think you guys might be putting the cart before the horse.
Not trying to ruin the fun here, but let's just get a few series of the regular line out first before we go wishlisting legends.

I'd be opened to whatever they want to pump out even if they release wrestlers Mattel already did in the past. Let's face facts here the elite and ultimate line still isn't on par with modern articulation standards. I'm hoping I can actually pose some of these figures Jazware decides to release.

It might be fortuitous that Mattel is putting out the old guy in a suit Warrior figure. Good way to see if there is a demand for old man versions.
