There has to be more to this story, he was in the middle of a push and storyline and was training at the PC when he wasn’t on the road before the pandemic.

PWInsider says his contract expired because the two sides could not come to terms on a new deal. If his contract did expire, he is not held to a 90 day non-compete. He is free and clear.

It's too bad because I was really hoping he and Bryan were gonna become a tag team and win the tag titles on Smackdown.
Thanks COVID19. Another one released because of you.

smart move on his part to move on from the WWE.Clearly they don't view him as a main eventer or for that matter even a meaningful upper to mid carder. He's just a solid hand in the ring for WWE that can put on good matches while putting other talents over, you know like Cesaro.Sure he'll probably get payed well for that role but at 33 year old I would much rater leave WWE and go anywhere else be it AEW,NJPW,ROH,IMPACT,MLW,NWA....ect and be treated like a much bigger deal and get more of a weekly role on television.Probably can comeback a few years later if he wants and still fill the type of role the WWE wanted him to fill anyways.

Hopefully this is worked out soon. His current run with Bryan has been perfect and IMO he's been fun in every role he's had so far in WWE.
Fingers crossed.

Very surprising, but hopefully he'll be back. I felt like he was really finding his stride with Bryan.

Definitely not his biggest fan, but this is a strange one. He was probably in his position so far, picking up a lot of steam, then all of a sudden - gone.

Wasn’t he just on Smackdown this past Friday night, or was this one taped in advance?

Uh, have you not heard?? We blame COVID19 on everything now that we don't like. So it must be COVID19's fault that his contract expired.

Guess WWE offered him a deal, but he asked for a raise. WWE said they can't give raises at the moment, Gulak didn't sign it, so WWE rescinded the offer.
I can see both sides of this. If Gulak was still making 205 money, he deserves more. But I can understand WWE not wanting to gives raises after just releasing talent. So as I said above, hopefully this gets worked out soon enough. He was onto something and was finally picking up steam.
Edit: WWE.com has yet to acknowledge his departure (besides him being moved to the alumni section). So maybe that's a good sign that they expect it to be settled soon?

I would love to see him in other places, obviously, but a resign and back to nxt to kill it with Thatcher would be a wise wise move.

Was just coming here to link a story that covered what you posted: wrestlingnews.co/wwe-news/update-on-drew-gulaks-wwe-departure/Also, he does not have a 90-day no-compete clause if he does choose to go elsewhere, as if that would be the biggest hurdle for him right now.
