Just finished last night's NXT. I'm so, so thankful for AEW. If it weren't for them, I probably would have taken a break from wrestling until NJPW came back. The crowd in NXT feels like there's an applause sign in the crowd. Very inorganic compared to Dynamite's party like atmosphere. There are things about AEW that bug me, but by comparison of everything WWE it's pretty damn perfect. I'd be shocked if NXT wins this week in the ratings. I'll be angry if AEW didn't go up at least a little from last week. That show deserves it.

730'000 AEW, 715'000 NXT. So AEW down about 90k from last week. News dominated though. AEW & NXT were some of the only non-news related programs to chart. News destroyed Raw on Monday and will probably destroy Smackdown on Friday too. It's the same story as literally every week. AEW is up in every single demo except 50+, where NXT regularly charts significantly higher than AEW. The AEW & NXT crowds are pretty set beyond the small number of people who either flip flop throughout the show, or alternate, etc. It's really just the crowd that will watch current events over wrestling that seems to be changing the ratings at this point. I'm sure AEW will continue to grow in ratings as time goes on, but I feel silly even comparing AEW & NXT ratings, because they really don't influence each other as much as other programs influence both of them. It's been essentially the same story every single week since Dynamite launched.

I also think essentially the same exact number of people watch these shows each week. Meltzer talked about before how they both have pretty much identical DVR numbers each week and then NXT has whoever watches NXT on the network when it hits on Friday. No matter what anyone says ratings in 2020 don’t matter. Anyone who tells you otherwise is an idiot. There is DVR, Hulu, infinite numbers of ways to watch things. None of it matters.

After last weeks strong number, looking at the full list I think the decline in viewers has 100% what's going on in the world right now. The same thing happened when the Covid coverage went into overdrive. Only 3 of the top 20 shows this week weren't news coverage. NXT only lost about 16k viewers.
I'm definitely not happy with that number if I'm AEW, but it at least adds some context. It'll be interesting to see what next week does.

I agree for the most part. I'm interested in the long term trends of each show on Wednesdays. Big picture, this "ratings war" isn't anything anyone should be bragging about.

ratings are so easily skewed: large fan bases of both aew and nxt are both internet savvy, so the amount of ratings getting lost to streams must be huge. I’d argue even more so for AEW, a company that initially built it’s brand with a large help from their internet marketing.

I’m sure they both do, my buddy watches NXT every week with his kid but has never actually watched it on anything but the network. They both easily get over a million. No doubt. Like when people talk about how TNA got more views than both these shows how pathetic! I’m like it was over a decade ago! Not even an argument!

You say ratings don’t matter, but I think if they go down for AEW they might think what they’re doing isn’t working and might change for the worse. It happened with TNA.

it, throw in lucha bros while we're at it and have the greatest tag match of all time. If we're going all out then I'd like to see the Motor City Machine Guns in that mix-up too I want to add War Machine to this continually growing multi man tag we’re all booking. I can’t wait to see those guys go back to being the beast they are

I'm sorry, but only an AEW zealot could find that pointless, Britt Baker vignette funny... there was literally nothing entertaining about it whatsoever, iyam.

Tony Schiavone inspiring Baker was clearly what made that segment work.

I haven’t liked anything she’s done, but I’m not a big women’s wrestling fan in general. the crowd is responding, people here seem to be a bit mixed on her. I liked your use of the word zealot there. but I had to google iyam, I’d forgotten that abbreviation.
