I think it was time, the NWO Hollywood angle had run its course and the fans reacted well to it. They maybe could have milked his return to those colors for a bit, make a feud out of it. WCW really should have tried to continue with the new blood angle with the older guys as the faces since most people were cheering them anyway - for the most part. It would have been good for the younger talent to finally get a run at some of the bigger names, it would have boosted their careers a bit. Having Hogan in the red and yellow would have been good for that seeing him as the ultimate good guy.

You humanoids know my stance on Hogan but I gotta admit it was cool to see em return in the red and yellow after over 3 years.Like MKSavage said his Hollywood character was running out of a gas so this was a good decision. And my God I hated the Nitro set during this era. To go from the classic look to that.Terrible.

The fans were yearning for it and by that year, Hollywood Hogan was getting stale. It wasn't as good as his hulk still rules run in 2002.

It felt wrong IMO. Hogan evolved from that gimmick when he became Hollywood and he was a real hateful heel so reverting back to the fan loving super hero just didn't work for me.
It worked in 2002 because he was back in his old stomping ground and the time felt right for Hulkamania to return.

Imagine if Sting went back to Blonde hair Surfer Sting in 1999 or 2000.

I liked it.
By that time in WCW the NWO was stale, it wasn't working. I think wrestling fans - as much as we loved Austin being rebellious in the WWF - were also kind of looking for that wholesome character again that was just a straight out good guy. That was the yellow and red Hulk Hogan.
I think Hulk being able to have two characters - being yellow and red and Hollywood - worked for him in the later part of his WCW run. He could be whatever was right for the feud or match he was going into.

I didn't care either way WCW got pretty bad the last few years. When Hogan turned heel and became Hollywood it really helped reinvent him, he was getting pretty stale. the one great thing is that Bobby Heenan went against him when he was in the red and yellow, and when he became Hollywood.

Imagine if Sting went back to Blonde hair Surfer Sting in 1999 or 2000. Sting has said that going back to his venice beach look wouldn't be possible because he doesn't have enough hair on his head to pull it off.

I thought it was cool at first but it got old real quick. It seemed out of place with the times and just felt like a nostalgia act. He had added so many new layers to his character over the past few years and he just kinda threw all that aside and seemed like a shell of himself. It was more like Hulk Hogan pretending to be Hulk Hogan rather than doing it naturally. Kinda like when you see a middle aged person dressing like their 18 years old. It just seems odd and unnatural. That’s what it felt like to me. On the flip side though, I loved the ‘Hulk Still Rules’ run that he had in 02-03. It was like the perfect balance between the two.

I remember watching it and it was like a religious experience lol. It had felt like an eternity since he was a good guy and the way they hinted at it all night, it felt like Hulk was whole again haha
The greatest Hulk Hogan moment though goes to him hulking up at WresleMania X8. I did not expect that and as soon as he started to do it I felt like I was 6 again and watching Hogan hulk up on the bad guys. It was one of the most awesome experiences in wrestling for me and I WISH I was there live for that

Its a lot to do with red/yellow never seeming right for WCW if anyone else gets me? The nWo had run its course totally by then and fans cheering Hogan so fervently in the 1st blood match with Flair was a clear sign. But again? WCW squandered its potential.
