Nove 98-April 99 heel Rock is one of the best heels ever....his heat was effing Nuclear because of his turn and siding with Vince. he was doing some powerful stuff here...so powerful? It ended up turning him face again...LOL.
2003 heel rock was done because it had to be.. After the reaction to him at SSlam 02? They couldn't bring him back as face...

I prefer Attitude Era heel Rock. Just because he seemed like he was an actual WWF Superstar then. The 2003 heel Rock felt like he was booed because fans felt he turned his back on wrestling and was just there now to fill in the contract he had with the WWE.

I remember he appeared on video as a face at the RAW 10 year anniversary awards in late 2002 or very early January 03. You couldn't even hear his pre-tape he was getting booed so heavily. He did turn heel in his post match promo at Summerslam 2002 but it was done off the air. |

By the time Rocks feud with Austin had finished after their excellent match @ Backlash 99 the fans were ready to love him..He was too cool to boo. When Shane berated Rock after the match the fans were over the effin moon because they knew he was turning...
When it was Austin & Rock vs the Corporate Ministry man that was awesome....

'99 all the way. He was more amusing back then and I thought had better promo's. In 2003 he was just annoying and dare I say it, cringey! Even in recent years when he has come back on and off, I found him annoying, his promo's are nowhere near as amusing and the whole hand gesturing and constantly repeating himself is terrible. Did anyone else pick up on that and found it annoying? like he would say a sentence or so and then repeat it once or twice. The arrogant persona Rock during the attitude era led itself to being more cool and when he came back years later he didnt have that.

1999 Corporate Rock. Though I think his heel work from early 1998-the face turn before going corporate was the best.

Did you prefer 90s Bulls Michael Jordan or 00s Wizards Michael Jordan??
I loved Hollywood Rock, but I believe that's only because I just love the Rock regardless of when. The same goes for Chris Jericho, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, and Hulk Hogan.
99 Rock, just like 90s Jordan, was just better than 03 Rock, just like 00s Jordan.

The one thing that Heel 1998-1999 Rock had over 2003 Heel Rock was '98-'99 Rock had legit heat with the fans. The Rock felt like one of those badass, cut throat, old-school, heels that you just wanted to see him get his ass kicked. 2003 Heel Rock felt like he was those cool Hollywood dudes who was doing cringeworthy comedy. Between 1999 and 2003, the business had changed so much that you couldn't have Heel Rock of '99 in '03.
Looking back, I would pick 1998-1999 over 2003 Heel Rock for the reasons I listed above.

Not an Attitude Era fan, but 1999 heel Rock. Without that superstar run, he wouldnt have had the Hollywood movie career to create the 2003 heel Rock.

While The Rock appeared on That '70's Show, what propelled his Hollywood career was hosting SNL back in March of 2000. Of which wouldn't have taken place if not for The Rock's work in 1998-1999. |

Just watched 2 classic Rock promos.
1st was from the Raw after Survivor Series 1998. My God the heat from the crowd after his heel turn & joining up with Vince was NUCLEAR. The way he played crowd...awww man.
2nd one was from the 1st episode of SD!....HHH & Chyna are in the ring & Rock is on the ramp. Ahhhh lads....he was BRILLIANT. "since the great one was not finished speaking" LMFAO
