Rewatched this match for the first time in a long time. I remember there being outside interference but in my mind I thought it was Ozzy or Lou. Who is the guy who grabbed Beefcake? Was he a ref assigned to the outside? Was there a storyline going in or coming out of WM2 of why he prevented Beefcake from making the save?  |

Oh wow, I never noticed that before. I just always thought Beefcake got tangled in the ropes and tripped when he tried to come inside.
I do know that Dynamite Kid takes one helluva bump in this match to end the match. When he gets headbutted by Valentine and falls off the middle rope to the floor. He ends up getting busted open and everything, and you can actually hear the thud he makes when he hits the ground.

I did some digging and it turns out it was the 2nd referee who tripped Beefcake.
He was assigned to the match to make sure the Dream Team did not cheat to keep the belts as they had been retaining via cheating up till this show.

LOL, I was at this show, on a Monday!!! Yeah, it was the second ref just sticking his nose in where it didn't belong, lol. Afterwards there really wasn't any mention of it on TV. The crowd popped huge for this and it was the first title change I ever saw live. Good times.

That ref tripping up Beefcake was a miscarriage of justice!
Great match though.Definitely a hidden gem from this Mania.

I kind of wonder if that outside Referee was supposed to trip Beefcake. I think he was a Horizon employee and not WWF. I think they used him also for Wrestling Classic. I wonder why WWF did that for those shows. Their other PPVs of that time were all WWF referees.
