I'm glad they havent completely trashed the Retros. Steve could easily have just said "its done" if he really didn't care.
there truly was only 2 major issues with retros.
retail distribution was horrendously executed changing to the "App" model with those stands and increasing the price was not the right decision. the line was appealing to older collectors who grew up with Hasbro's, and none of us cared about the App.
if I was bringing the Retros back, I would have it be this: 4 figures per wave. 2 current/2 classic. 2 Per case. Retail price point of $9.99. And release 4 waves per year (1 per quarter) and tie Ringside in to give them 2x exclusive Retros per year. And the classic figure choices priority should be guys they still have signed who were around during the Hasbro era that didn't get made (like they did with Retro Diesel and Goldust)
I'd rather pay $10 for a Retro than a basic at this point. With the expansion of other online sellers too it should be easy to get them to carry a retro line.

That was a brilliant Q&A and I would like to say thank you to Bill and Steve for being so open and honest with us. I love the product and have been collecting WWE action figures since the Hasbro days and you guys are killing it right now. What you have showed us during SDCC has been amazing and I can’t wait to add further to my ever growing collection - I may need a bigger house buy the end of the year!
THANK YOU SO MUCH

I would also add that they try to make them resemble the old Hasbro's a little more and branch out on the designs/molds of the figures, yes Hasbro did multiple of the same action (clothesline, press slam, punch) but that had different body molds for each action. I would maybe even go 3 legends to 1 current star since this line is more geared towards collectors than kids. I could see a parent or a child today wanting a basic more than a retro figure at the same price, a collector - especially one that grew up on the Hasbro's - would prefer a retro over a basic. And you're right they should focus on guys who did not get a Hasbro figure at the time like the guys you mentioned but they could also give us guys that did but in different variations. For instance, long tights Macho King, heel Jake the Snake, ring gear Roddy Piper, Canadian Earthquake, R&B Greg Valentine, ring gear Honky Tonk Man, MM Brutus Beefcake, singlet Ultimate Warrior, HF Jim Neidhart, Tugboat, Natural Disasters Earthquake, LOD with removable shoulder pads, a better version of Rick Rude, USA Luger, etc. Maybe the ringside exclusives could be for managers and announcers like Bobby Heenan, Slick, Bodyguard Virgil, Jimmy Hart, Vince McMahon, Gorilla Monsoon and Mr. Fuji. I also wouldn't mind if they did a number of WCW stars from that time period; surfer Sting, Rick Rude, Ricky Steamboat, Stunning Steve Austin, Brian Pillman, Sid Vicious, Vader, Cactus Jack, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, etc.

They did mimic them, but I was actually fine with their being some new, different actions. Yes they re-used the same actions a bit much, but again I don't think they envisioned the line going downhill so fast. and I'd say no to the 3-1 classics....when Hasbro's came out they weren't retro guys, they were the only way to get current guys. Some of my favorite Mattel retros are the current guys because it's awesome being able to have those kind of figures of the guys now. Plus all those names you mentioned, we have no idea who is still signed to a deal or not...plus how do we know that a deal doesn't include a certain number of figures in general, I'd rather them make elites of any Legend over a retro. WCW looks would be great for some of the bigger names, especially since Hogan is back in the fold (nWo Hogan Retro would be amazing) suited guys would be terrible pegwarmers.... maybeHeenan or Jimmy Hart...but even that would be a stretch. stay away from managers. They just need to focus on popular current stars, and variations on big name Legends. and the RSC exclusives could be a popular name that people request, who comes with a Retro Championship belt (because that is the one thing we were really missing from the line)

And this is coming from someone who’s first wrestling figures were the Hasbros. The only one I got was series 1 Undertaker. That’s a figure that could have fit in perfectly with the later era Hasbros. Perhaps it was the character/attire choices that was a turn off. I think Mattel would benefit from doing a retro line where the carding was vintage but the figures were Elite. We’ve seen Hasbro do it with Marvel/Star Wars, and like clockwork, people are rebuying Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader etc strictly because the cards are vintage and a throwback to their youth. I’m only speaking for myself though. I just don’t see a need for a Hasbro style Seth Rollins or Kevin Owens. Or Steve Austin for that matter. I think people would go crazy for a vintage carded Elite line

I wonder which legend woman figure is coming?! Torrie, Terri, Ivory, Jacqueline, Luna or Molly Holly? I’m thinking Torrie! Terri was planned to be in a 2-pack with Goldust, but that got cancelled when Goldust left. I would assume she is one of them. I think the other will be a Mighty Molly to go with Hurricane. I’m hoping the most for Terri Runnels. Either have a Marlena variant or add a soft good gold dress with a different head scan so we can achieve her as The She Devil and as Marlena. We can even go as far as hand swaps: one set evoking the devil horns and one set holding a cigar. I realize this could be pricey for them so I’m definitely okay with two separate figures. Luna Vachon and Jacqueline would be dreams come true as well. Hoping for an updated Luna that came with the Sable back in the day. That outfit was the best.
