His brief WCW run was a failure no doubt about it.

Wonder if he ever partied with Hall and Nash?

I'm willing to bet he did i remember reading once UNDERTAKER was not a fan of him and had him kicked out of locker room
Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter
Internally, the feeling is that The Sandman better shape up or he could be shipped out. During the European tour in November, Undertaker wasn't too fond of The Sandman's obnoxious and loud ways. Undertaker was saying he could put up with Big Show because he's used to him, but The Sandman was rubbing him the wrong way. Considering that the ECW wrestlers will now be touring with the SmackDown wrestlers, he is going to have to change his ways or he may not last as an employee for WWE.

sandman looks so big in wcw, was juicing hard for his big 'run'
yeah, they didn't know how to use ECW talent. raven did the best out of them by far, mike awesome second, and that's due completely to the strength of the characters.

The fact that Hak got a WCW action figure for only being there for I wanna say less than a year is impressive.
I remember he left ECW in September of '98, showed up as Raven's friend at his rich family's house as "Jim" or "James" I forget which one they used. Then that disappeared for months and he came out as Hak in 1999 and was gone by the end of the summer.
He probably made a million dollars though in that year, and he got in terrific shape. So he had that going for him with his WCW run.

Second, really? That 70s Guy, and The Fat Chick Thrilla? He had a decent start when he joined, and then the Team Canada run, but his career in WCW was overall awful. Perry Saturn had a much better WCW run than Awesome ever did. The thing that's hilarious about Sandman's WCW run, was how it started, before he ever wrestled a match. Those vignettes where Raven show to actually be a spoiled rich kid, where he's make smart ass remarks to the camera, and Sandman was introduced as the family's preppy neighbor. That was the gimmick they were going to give to the man known for chugging bear, smoking cigarettes like a chimney, and beating people with a Singapore cane. Plain and simple, Sandman was one of those wrestlers that falls in the category that he could have only gotten to the heights he did, under Paul Heyman. Someone that showed Heyman's talent of being able to hide the negatives, and accentuate the positives of the wrestler.

And beyond the action figure and I think one t-shirt, I don't think he had any actual merchandise, and in WCW, I don't think he moved much.

I mean, if you want to interchange the dude that had to get in a dress for the guy who had to do some lame Russo bs, go ahead. perry never got shots at the world title though.

I'd take the story line of Saturn being forced for 90 days to wear a dress after Jericho beat him, which lead to him 'showing how weird he could get' when he was forced to keep wearing it, over Awesome's character centered around loving fat women, or fight ICP on top of the Partridge Family bus. And getting a shot at the WCW title, doesn't mean anything. He never won a title in WCW, while Saturn had the run as TV Champion and Tag Team Champion. Mike Awesome was straight up a victim of the WCW system of getting a guy after he made his name in ECW or WCW, and then after a bit of an initial push, they lost interest in doing anything serious with him. He's also unfortunately, at least in the US, another example of a guy that Heyman knew how to use right, while both WCW and WWF didn't.
