So there is always a lot of emphasis put on the MNW and how Ted specifically put Nitro against Raw to try and put WWF out of business but has anyone ever talked about the decision to put SmackDown on Thursday against Thunder? WCW was in the toilet by August of 99 and had no chance of competing against WWF so this was kind of an aggressive move to make. Has JR or Bruce Prichard ever commented on this?

Vince McMahon once said on the “Monday Night Wars” DVD, "My philosophy is help yourself, don't hurt the other guy."

I’m just curious as to why they chose Thursday for Smackdown. Not sure if this has ever been addressed on a podcast or something.

Did Vince choose to go against WCW Thunder, or was that the night UPN had open for Smackdown?? I mean, there was a lot of TV programming on that network back in 1999. And honestly, I never cared for Smackdown. I felt that once they started that, the TV just got less exciting for me. I mean having Sunday Night Heat in a way was a gamble, because they were putting on some main event style matches on that show in 1998 and 1999, but once they added Smackdown and had to fill two hours of credible TV each week, Heat became a show for the lesser nobodies. To me, I just was not a fan overall. I really wish they never had Smackdown happen, and maybe if that was the case when WWE bought WCW in 2001, we would have had WCW Thursday Night Nitro instead.

Perhaps this was UPN’s idea. Maybe after seeing the success of the MNW they wanted to try and create the same thing.

Vince McMahon once said on the “Monday Night Wars” DVD, "My philosophy is help yourself, don't hurt the other guy." Always laugh when I hear him saying that.....He made his bones killing the other guy. by 1988 the WWF was literally built on the graveyard of the territory system. OT? I think it was Vince's idea...he was winning, wanted to press the advantage, win on 2 fronts & be able to show it.

Imagine if WWF had a Thursday show in 98 when Thunder was watchable. But yeah by Summer 99 WCW was slowly dying and Vince and co knew that so this was just the extra stamp of dominance.

Vince crying foul over what Bischoff did is just SO hollow. He threatened to pull WWF events from PPV if they showed JCP events. How he could be upset over that Ill never understand...Bischoff was reading from Vince's own playbook.
