Apparently the news media is saying he died of COVID19.... of course he did. Everyone that dies now is said that it's from COVID19 to spike the numbers and make society scared. Everyone knows Kamala was ill for the past 5 years or so. That diabetes took his legs, that he had trouble breathing and such. But let's just say it's COVID19 to make sure we get those numbers up! I don’t think the numbers are as high as reported myself.

Well that's sad. I haven't seen many (if any at all) of his matches but I do know that he beat the Hulkster in a title match via countout. He did good business on the house show circuit with Hogan circa late 86/early 87 I remember Hogan saying that Kamala was one of the best big men to work with, he would hit you or land on you and it would feel like a feather. RIP big man.

As always, I wonder who was Friday in the Blassie interview. It's definitely not Steve Lombardi. It's strange there are things in wrestling we will just never know.
I find that video so bittersweet. Bitter obviously because James passed but sweet because you see him happy in so many scenes. Not to be a downer but the last 20 years or so with shoot and online interviews he always seemed so down about pay and card position. I wish that he had been able to always be as happy as those Mene Gene outtakes. More than anything, of course, I wish that he had been in better health for the last 10 years though I'm sure he had a strong faith and support network.

From what I understand Friday was played by different people that worked backstage.

I only got to see him wrestle live once at a house show in Salt Lake City back in 1992.
He wrestled against Louie Spicolli, so it was a squash. Still enjoyed the hell out of it.
If I remember right, the main/semi-main event matches were Warrior VS. Shango and B.Hart VS. HBK for the IC title.
... Geez, I miss the Golden Era

He has his slim build but it was 1984 WWF and I don't think he was in WWF until late 1991.

I'll always remember a tv taping in South Bend. Kamala wrestled 3 squash matches that night.

I really only remember his feud with UT in 1992. I really only remember that for UTs entrance at SSlam 92...I remember he was part of my evil foreigners stable in my Hasbro Fed that was managed by The Mountie...LOL

But if you go to YouTube theirs 2 recent videos where jim cornette talks about kamala. He mentions who Friday was. I think it was 2 different guys. Nobody famous if I recall correctly

Honestly I remember my father walking around the house mimicking him more than I remember certain feuds or matches.

Great memories of Kamala from ‘92-‘93:
His attempts to pin jobbers on their stomachs and being told to roll them over but doing it too much and then getting up and going over to his corner to get more instructions. Lucky for him the jobbers were still out of it when finally got them on their backs.
Jumping off the top rope onto Undertaker and then freaking out when Taker got up from it.
Backstage promos where he would just be stood there moaning and groaning while somehow the other guys were keeping a straight face trying to talk.
Learning to bowl. Hilarious.
Speaking his first word. Shame it was “Amen”.
Losing by count out to Doink when he was given a present at ringside and started to open it. Upon finding it empty he was devastated, but he soon got mad when he saw Doink laughing at him and he went after him.
His King of the Ring qualifying march against Mr Hughes where Kimchee interfered and poor confused Kamala beat him down at ringside and tried to pin him outside the ring when it wasn’t even his opponent. The ironic thing is he got him the right way up first time.
I saw the match on YouTube against George Steele. Great comedy match which could only have happened the way it did due to the way their two characters interacted together.
Also on YouTube, I saw a match with Kamala as the Mississippi Mauler against Big Daddy in the old classic British wrestling from 1982. He’s a lot smaller and has no facepaint, but you can tell it’s him.
Great character wrestler, later appearances weren’t quite the same (except in Regal’s office, that was golden) as I guess they had to tone down the character a bit and a really nice guy behind the scenes seemingly.

I remember seeing him in PWI a lot in the early 80s, and I was excited to finally see him when he wrestled Magnum T.A. '85. His moveset was limited, by design of the character, but he was more than athletic enough to make matches entertaining and believable. Of course I remember him later in WWE, against the likes of Hogan, Taker, and George Steele. It's a good thing that he had a rep for being a safe worker because when he took flight on those splashes, it looked like he could cave in a chest if he wanted to do so. His wife said that she believes that his contracted COVID from his dialysis visits. For an elderly man with high blood pressure and diabetes, I'm sure that pushed his body over the edge. But I'll never forget the image of him after his amputation, sitting in a wheelchair, nonetheless satisfied with his legacy. A big smile broke across his face as the interview ended, and he said, "I'm still Kamala."
