Oh dang, rip Kamala. What did he pass from? It hasn't come out yet but he's been sick for a good while now.Diabetes caused both of his legs to be amputated which made him wheel chair bound. He had heart problems as well.

Well that's sad. I haven't seen many (if any at all) of his matches but I do know that he beat the Hulkster in a title match via countout. He did good business on the house show circuit with Hogan circa late 86/early 87

December 26, 1986 when he headlined the Garden with Hulk Hogan.
The feud with Undertaker. It’s a shame how much more Undertaker made at Summerslam 92 over Kamala. A sin really. Kamala discussed that often in interviews.

I can't find the clip, but I had a good laugh when Kamala, Friday & Freddie Blassie were on Tuesday Night Titans. Blassie said Kamala knows some magic & is going to make a chicken disappear. They cut to a commercial & when they come back, the chicken is gone & Kamala is sitting there with feathers stuck in his beard.
I'm going to slap my belly in honor of him.

He wad a great heel. No matter who he wrestled you felt like he had a legit chance of beating them. I always popped when he would try and pin a guy the wrong way I saw him wrestle Undertaker at SummerSlam 92 Which despite seeing the wwe live pretty much every year since 91 was the only time I saw him live. His figure was a firm contender for the Intercontinental title in my Hasbro days and he and Papa Shango had a run with the tag titles. By the way, i highly recommend you read what Bret Hart posted about Kamala on Instagram. It is really touching stuff

RIP. He legit kind of scared me as a kid. I'll always remember that magazine cover with Hogan's head on the end of his spear lol. And got to see him live at a house show in 86 or 87, when Curtis Iaukea was his manager.

Cornette was spot-on here. Sugarbear Harris was a terrible wrestler. But Kamala was a great gimmick that got him over.
Rest peacefully, big man.

I liked his matches with Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant and the Undertaker.

Being that I didn't grow up in the era he was active in, I don't remember a lot about him in his prime. But I will never, ever forget WM17 when William Regal was flipping out in the segment in his office where he was screaming "get down ya bloody animal", "he wants me to rub the moon on his belly". I love Regals reaction and Kamala was just priceless in it by holding the picture of the Queen.
It's always sad losing a true wrestling giant, and after him having to get his legs amputated and being in a wheelchair for his remaining days it's even more sad. RIP Kamala!

I should re-read his excellent autobiography which I have an autographed copy of. I didn't meet him sadly, I bought the book from the author's website.

I remember renting the Inside the Steel Cage WWF Coliseum Video and seeing his cage match with Andre the Giant from Maple Leaf Gardens in 1984 on that tape. Such a good match for those two big men.
Kamala vs. Hulk Hogan was always entertaining on the house shows or WWF Coliseum video tapes. Hogan made ya believe that Kamala was gonna take the title off of him and watching it as a kid, I thought the same thing at times.
His WWF return in 1992 was great. He was put right into a feud with Undertaker. The baby face turn was odd at first but the vignettes of him bowling and such is pretty funny.
When he showed up at the 2004 Diva search I wanna say it was on Raw, that was humorous too.
I was shocked to find out in my early 20s that Kamala wrestled for NWA, Mid South, Memphis and such in the 80s as well. I always figured he was just a WWF guy for the most part, because that's all I ever saw him compete at until I got into tape trading in my early 20s.
R.I.P. James Harris. You left behind a great legacy for your fans.

Kamala discussed that often in interviews. I've always felt like someone told James the pay difference as a joke on him. A mean joke obviously and a joke that he believed and held onto for many years. Undertaker was a former HW champ but more like a transitional champ at the time. I can't see him being paid $500,000 during that event. He wasn't even the biggest name on the card until years later in WWF. It would be interesting to hear Undertaker's comments on this at some point. I was a huge Kamala fan but think if he had stayed with one or more companies for a longer amount of time he probably would have made much more. Pay has always been an issue with him and I guess a matter of pride since he would leave a promotion so quickly and of course he never accepted the Dawn Marie check. I do wish that Hasbro found a way of getting all the moon figures to him rather than finding their ways into collectors hands. I'm sure many thousands of dollars for those toys would have helped him.

Apparently the news media is saying he died of COVID19.... of course he did. Everyone that dies now is said that it's from COVID19 to spike the numbers and make society scared.
Everyone knows Kamala was ill for the past 5 years or so. That diabetes took his legs, that he had trouble breathing and such. But let's just say it's COVID19 to make sure we get those numbers up!

As someone who is in his mid 50’s and has diabetes and other heath issues like heart disease if I catch it I may or may not recover. My father-in-law hasn’t left the house since February because he has diabetes, quadruple bypass surgery and is on oxygen because his lungs are at 40% capacity if he gets it the doctors already told him that it was 95% certain he would die. So yeah he could have had all those underlying issues but if he contracted COVID it would be the final nail.
