I just had an idea (shower thoughts for the win!) for a top prospect tournament. AEW invites 16 up and coming wrestlers to participate in the Eddie Guerrero Memorial Tournament the winner gets a guaranteed AEW contract. Tony Khan has done a great job during the pandemic of bringing in independent talent who aren't getting work elsewhere and I think could actually pull off a top prospect tournament (I'm staring bullets at you, ROH). The winner of the whole thing? David Benoit.
Who would you all want in this hypothetical tournament?
edit: to be clear, I'm not posting this to start drudge up the Benoit tragedy. I think it'd be a beautiful way to honor the deceased and provide both families a beautiful moment.

I'd mark out if they did an Eddie Guerrero tournament and I'd be suuuuuper stoked if David won. Im anxiously awaiting his debut in the business.

I haven't seen any of David's in ring work...while I would potentially be cool with it if he was ready, it might unfortunately hit a very sensitive spot with a lot of people.

Oof. I’m all for anything giving tribute to Eddie, but Benoit. I know his son didn’t do anything wrong, but this would be a horrible idea lol no offense I just couldn’t see any positive to using the Benoit name at all.

Apparently he's been training and he's talked to TK & Jericho about coming in. He wants to use his dad's name, music, and gear (which I think is WAY too far). I think if he used his mom's maiden name or something, it'd be a great way to introduce him.

Let that family, who suffered the tragedy, decide how they want to move forward. Also, not pointing my finger specifically at anyone here. Just making an overall statement. There's an Owen Hart thread around here somewhere, I believe. People had been hostile towards Martha (different death, still neither is our business to comment on) about her unwillingness to work with WWE. People have begun to come around to her side, lately. Thankfully. Hopefully the same happens for David & Nancy's sister Sandra. Let the negative die, let these two grieve and live free of shackles.

I'd be down for a memorial tournament. I don't know that David has enough ring experience to be ready to go all the way and win the thing though. I'd be pulling to get either Shawn Dean or BPJ a contract out of it personally. I'm excited to see David start up in the business, but let the dude get some experience first.

Not sure if he’s considered up and comer to some but to me Brian Pillman Jr would be an excellent candidate for this tournament

Unless he started training semi-recently, as far as I'm aware David's training basically consisted of showing up at Lance Storm's school a few times. The kid has gone through a ridiculous amount of trauma in his life, but if you watch interviews he doesn't seem like the most grounded person. He seems to over exaggerate his abilities and relationships a bit. He seems to talk a good game, but I don't think he's anywhere near a legitimate position to enter the business. But I love the idea of using tournaments as an avenue to give some of their lower card talent a rub, bring in some indie wrestlers on a trial basis, and maybe even throw in some veteran names. I really love the way AEW has, intentionally or unintentionally, sort of positioned themselves in the wrestling ecosystem. Instead of just feeding off of the talent pool, they've used their position to give some spotlight to and elevate talent outside their world. It's been a really refreshing way of handling the promotion.

They should do that in November. The 15 year anniversary of Eddie’s death.

i'd be down for an eddie memorial tournament, but not a tag team one. they're in the process of doing a women's tag tourney, and they've already had a prior tag tournament. i'd like to see a singles one though, with guys that have a more lucha in-ring style... then build the winner in a similar way to eddie. working a smaller group of guys in fast-paced, cruiserweight-ish matches, maybe a tag run with someone similar, then finally get bumped to the top of the card.
