Just going back to 1998 on the network and watching the begining of The Ministry and I find myself really enjoying it, 1998 seemed like a packed year for WWE with the debut of The Brood, Accolytes, the begining of Ministry Taker and Mike Tyson, I even find myself enjoying The Oddities, 1998 was a year I don't remember because I was 2 at the time but watching through some of the stuff made me want to go further back than orignally planned for 98 and I also started the Road to Wrestlemania from that time.

Today's TV contracts and international deals beg to differ.

In terms of revenue? No, they didnt have today's NBC and FOX TV money.
In terms of ratings? No, they were higher the next two years.
In terms of quality of the product? Its a matter of opinion, but there are many people who believe the Hulkamania Era was better.

98 kicked things off for the boom period but the 99 and 2000 were overall stronger years

You have your numbers transposed. I think you mean 1989. My personal favorite.

It’s one of my favorite years. Along with 1997.

It might not be the best in terms of the entire history of the company but 98 was the best year of the MNW imo. 97 was good but it was all WCW and 99-00 was good but it was all WWF. 98 was when both were neck and neck trading victories.

Of the three eras of the WWF/WWE that I watched back then Golden, New Generation & Attitude the Attitude era was by far my least favorite. I was still a WCW guy then. Golden and New Gen I was watching both WWE and NWA/WCW evenly. But by the time the Attitude era came around I was mainly watching WCW. Really the only WWE I was watching them was the big 4 PPV’s. That or if Bret, Triple H or Austin was on RAW When I flipped on during a commercial break or a wrestler I didn’t care for on WCW.

Lets all be honest - we're all jaded. The 'best' era in wrestling is whenever you started watching. My era is 98 - mid 01. In my opinion, thats the best era. And to think....In a few years time people will talk about the Performance Centre era was the best era lol

I started watching in 88 when WWF wrestling was first introduced to Irish TV. LOVE 88-91 WWF but late 1996 to Austins turn at WM17 that soured me was the greatest period for me.
As I say...must see TV. Both Nitro & Raw were on Friday nights here...I watched both religously from march 96 to mid 2000 when I gave up on WCW and dropped it.

Writing wise, I’d say 1997 and 2003 Smackdown are the best years for the WWE. Consistent and coherent stories that spanned throughout the year. Interesting characters and feuds. Great years.

Great years. 2003 Smackdown had that awful Stephanie vs Vince feud that was so incoherent. I thought 2003 sucked especially on the Raw side.
