There’s been quite a few running changes in figures & it got me thinking....Are these honest mistakes in a sense that once they’re released someone says oh, it should have been packaged this way instead so let’s do that with the second wave of the series or is it a planned marketing strategy to get a lot of hardcore collectors to buy more by having to have every version? A good example of what I’m talking about is the new Rick Rude figure from E series 77....there’s now four different packagings between the two versions for this figure & I’m sure there’s folks out there that have bought all four....of course my question would only apply to those who are Moc collectors but still I think it’s worth discussing.....any thoughts guys?

I would imagine the cost of making running changes isn't worth the extra few sales it inspires.

It’s all a part of the master plan

If they want to make money on running changes then they ought to do it with Rollins, Styles, and Balor figures. I buy all their elites. Haven’t had any of them with running changes as far as I know. There might be the Styles/Bálor 2-pack that has Bálor’s head switched around, but other than that..

I would imagine the cost of making running changes isn't worth the extra few sales it inspires. I must admit that when I first seen the prototype pics for the Warrior version of Rick Rude I was hooked, but then I seen how it was packaged wearing the robe & it killed it for me, I no longer wanted it....however then I seen the running change version of the figure with the robe folded beside of him & I was immediately back on the wagon....then when I was lucky enough to find that particular version at one of my Walmart’s a few days back I grabbed it....so in the end they got me with the running change I guess, only difference is I’m not buying the other three package variations even though I collect Moc

Also, I’d like to pose a couple more questions on the topic if I may....what is it exactly that makes them decide to do these running changes on certain figures but not others? Is it fan response from places such as this forum or someone in the higher ups or both maybe?

I really doubt anything conspiratorial. There are so many variables from design to production with a mass retail line that stuff happens at times. Most of the toy companies are handled by real fans these days so I’m sure pride is involved and they hate to have to correct these issues

I don't thank Mattel would damage figures on purpose just for hardcore collector's to have different variations it seems like they would be wasting money instead of making money I'm pretty sure Mattel made a mistake even though the way they have it packaged looks weird at least the figure is not damaged.

There aren't enough "hardcore collectors" to warrant doing this.
