He's got it all wrong. He should know by now that WWE is a prison and if you defend it, you're clearly a shill or a boot-licker... duh. He needs to leave the Fed immediately and cut a scathing promo on "the old guy up North holding him back" so he can be liked again. And then give the same interview for two years to really drive it home. Eventually we can put him in YouTube videos where he references his old gimmick with a wink and a nod, so we can talk about how he's free at last.
Did I get it right?

Honestly WWE writing is poor and I feel they lack stars. They don't have a #1 guy like they did with John Cena which is hurting them at the moment. They spent years sabotaging the momentum of other stars in an attempt to push Reigns as the next Cena and they are suffering for it now. Throw in Brock jobbing so many guys out on top of this and it’s a recipe for disaster. Ambrose, Wyatt, Ziggler, Balor, Rusev, Joe, Strowman etc... the list goes on of guys who’s momentum was purposely sabotaged in order to ensure they didn’t look better than Reigns.

I don’t think he is totally wrong! The way he goes about saying it isn’t the smartest but I mean no matter what they do there is a large group of fans who crap all over it. Not so much here but if you go on the fb forums there is a decent contingent of people out there that think Drew McIntyre sucks as champion and think Orton is gonna be a big boost cause he is a “huge star”. People were hating on that thunder some thing before it even started. The internet in general is just toxic and filled with people who think their voice matters and want to be critical of everything.

I am fully convinced that the people who defend this company through thick and thin on this forum (its always the same 3-5 ppl) would have willingly gone down on the titanic, believing till their last breath that it was unsinkable.
sure, people generally are harder to satisfy. but it's a cop out of a reason not to care what the fan's think. it doesn't matter who is champion if the writing itself sucks.

I actually enjoy his stuff with Mysterio lately. Aside the eye for eye crap, they have good chemistry and I think Dominick has a lot of potential.
I don’t really care for Seth as a person based on these types of answers he has given in interviews. He seems very thin skinned.

All companies have their loyal fans. It's no different than the people who defend Jericho giving concerts in enclosed buildings with no one wearing masks. Or any different than the ones who support letting fans back in the arena, in Florida of all places. Or the ones that praised a teleporting Matt Hardy. It goes both ways. I'm not saying you specifically, but we both know they're out there.
In other words I don't see a problem with WWE fans supporting WWE on a WWE board. Much like I'm sure there are those in the AEW board supporting them. Or the Impact board.

I'm never going to criticize someone for digging what the WWE's doing (ideally you'd enjoy something you're spending several hours of your week engaging in), I just find it a little overly defensive to act like the people who don't like it want something that's unattainable and will never be happy. You have Seth Rollins saying fans don't know what they want, and in the same breath admitting they're making things up as they go along. Long term angles, story lines, and general direction is what a lot of those people want.

to be honest, I legit wasn't counting you as one of those people. I meant those that have to be downright disrespectful to the other members on a consistent basis in some strange way of dismissing legitimate criticisms. you will readily acknowledge bad decisions if you see them - that's far beyond the usual suspects I'm referring to. people should be allowed to like what they like, and allowed to not like what they don't like, without being repeatedly chastised. and anyone who doesn't think Jericho's covid concerts were an embarrassment have their heads in the sand too.

The problem is society demands that sort of mentality and trains us to see the world as a constant "us vs. them" struggle. Once you fall so deep in line with one brand/thought or another, you become unwilling or unable to see any faults with what you follow and only see the negatives in everything that dare challenges "your" beliefs. Everything "we" do is good, everything "they" do is bad. No matter how true or valid the criticism may be, you are desired to instantly reject this notion as though it was a personal insult because what you "believe" in is you. In attacking it, "they" are attacking you.

Too many people take criticism (constructive or not) of their favorite promotion far too personally. I'm super guilty of just laughing at the absurdity in wrestling (every promotion is fair game), but I try to be constructive when I'm not joking around (or really aggravated at Cinematic matches and far too goofy gimmicks). I've had really constructive conversations in my DMs (with 1-2 glaring exceptions) where we find a middle ground. It's too easy to be a d*ck here because tone is totally lost when written. ANYWAY Tying this back to the OP, I really don't see how him saying this publicly helps anyone. I don't expect him to openly trash his employer and throw people under the bus, that'd kill his career. If he really wants to be a locker room leader, criticizing your dwindling fan base is a very bad move. Keep your head down and work harder. It's frustrating to work really hard on something and it being met with poor reception, I totally get that. But there's a total lack of self-assessment here and it starts at the top. WWE (and some talent) have mocked the fans who don't like the direction for years. Fans have left and now the top talent is blaming fans in interviews. They say they listen and will try to do better to appease their base, but they don't.

Long term angles, story lines, and general direction is what a lot of those people want. And yet, every post about Daddy Meltzer’s leaked “plans” for the Roman Reigns “coronation” was not at all positive, it was just months/years of demanding Vince push whoever the flavour of the week is instead, and REEEEEing about stubborn evil Vince sticking to plans and ignoring fans. And WWE encouraged that sort of behaviour with the Daniel Bryan vs Authority storyline, then the frequent stop-starts with Reigns, and then manufactured copies of the Bryan thing for Becky Lynch and Kofi Kingston in the last year or two. Anyone who has spent years hate-watching the show just to complain about it isn’t really a fan anyway. And the worst thing is that WWE tries to cater to that sort anyway, so everything just ends up wishy-washy. The Covid era has been a nice little reshuffling of the deck, with an altered roster, less pressure to deliver high ratings, and no crowds trying to get themselves over for loudly hating on the show. McIntyre has benefitted massively from getting months of being the top guy without crowds turning on him, and no desperation moves to dethrone him. As boring as some of the shows have been, the lack of disruption has allowed some of the midcard to strongly establish themselves. Zelina Vega and her guys, Apollo Crews, the Hurt Business, the Viking Raiders, Sheamus and the Street Profits have all come into their own in a way that wasn’t happening for them in the old world. Even Ricochet and Cedric Alexander have shown a bit of personality. And then legends like Edge, Orton and Jeff Hardy have all been able to deliver stuff above and beyond what they would have done in the traditional environment. I feel like Matt Riddle has suffered a bit with the lack of crowds, because his “bro” shtick really needs an audience reacting to it to cover how cringeworthy and lame it is. Braun Strowman too, he hasn’t adapted brilliantly and it’s always tough feuding with Bray Wyatt’s magic powers, but I’m intrigued in the new direction. Weirdly, Kevin Owens has not been a strong character and I would have expected him to be. I guess it’s because he’s been in and out so there hasn’t been anything for him to sink his teeth into, but it’s weird to see him as a “just there” guy for the first time in his WWE career. Rollins himself has been dull as hell for months too, constantly rematching Aleister Black/Rey Mysterio/Humberto Carrillo, although the eyeball silliness and the kendo stick torture have added some life back into his deal. Asuka, Bayley and Sasha Banks probably would’ve been fine either way. TLDR - Rollins is right about those fans (hell, “put the belt on Seth Rollins” is proof enough of that), but that doesn’t excuse the fed constantly changing things just to try appeasing them. The Vin Man should just make some long term plans and stick to them regardless of what the haters are saying. It does feel like the Covid era is facilitating that to happen a bit more.

It's almost as if there are millions of fans across the world and that doing one thing to please them all is impossible. Who would've thought? But naw, it's easier to push the notion that wrestling fans are a hive mind who always and only follow one opinion.
